auto box dip stick

anyone know where the dip stick for the auto gearbox is please on a 2.2 face lift. its either well camouflaged or not their, or my eyes are worse than i thought

Assuming it's the same place as my 99 3.0 it's ....... they didn't put one on! :( It's a fill/level plug on the side.

It could be worse, the Merc C180 I was driving down to Plymouth in doesn't even have an engine dip stick. As I got to the M62 on the way back, the car bleeped at me and told me to put a litre in the next time I refueled. How crap is that?

Level is checked with atf at 60C, engine running, then topping up to level of filler hole.

oh

You have a fill/level plug instead of a dip stick. So you have to get your car on ramps/axle stands & lie down underneath to check.  :y

Are you checking level because there is an issue, or because you've covered a few miles?

In either case, best to drain the old stuff, and put fresh in.

Covered many times, but to drain, remove filler bolt, loads will come out.  Then drop both gearbox sumps.  Clean/replace filter, clean magnet, refit sumps, fill up to level mark.  Start engine, then fill back up to level mark. Put filler bolt back in, take for 20 min spin, fill back up to filler level (with engine running).

 there's nothing wrong ive just got the car and i was having a nosey
under the bonnet (and i don't trust the garage 100%)

now many miles? more than 50 - 70k, probably worth renewing anyway :y

DIY able if you have a driveway (not recommended doing on street), though can get messy, so worth putting down some large bits of cardboard etc :)
