Hi what tyres are people using on their Omegas? I'm looking for a set of 225/55/16.
Any recommendations or horror stories welcome!

Currently have Accelera winters on my Omega... Ran my 5 Series on them as well, even in summer. No complaints, and cheap too if you buy them now

Shopping trolley has Dunlop Blueresponse on it, again with no complaints, but haven't used them on an Omega sized car...

Been using Accelleras for years on my Omegas . The older Alphas getting hard to find now it seems. So gone over to Ph i R 's just as good if not better. IMO

However this being a tyre thread . . .expect negatives on these from the purists who will not spend much less than a £100 a corner

Accelleras are as good a budget tyre as you will find & suit the omega well . . . .only my opinion though . ..

Depends what you want. Something black and round, to get through an MOT, buy the cheapest shit you can, but do avoid Autogrip, as they will kill you after you've pulled a couple of mm off them.

If you want something that actually grips well, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are my tyre of choice on the Omega, hence its what TBE sits on all round. Good from new all the way to the legal limit, and a completely different ~~league~~ universe to the budgets. Wrong side of £100 in 18" form though, probably under £100 in 17". No idea able that odd 225/55/16 size, which was always less common, so might bump price up.

In the mid range, Kuhmo Ecsta Sport (31 currently IIRC) is a good tyre, though lacks feedback if you like to drive in a spirited manor, but better than the budgets by some margin... ...but pricey, so I'd pay the bit extra for the PS4

As to horror stories (on Omegas):

Autogrip. The only way to lose a car at walking pace around a roundabout. Every time. Consistently.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assym2. Midrange grip and premium price. Had 3 tyres fail out of the 6 I bought.

Continental Sport Contact 5. Hopeless, but fortunately completely worn at 3000 miles.

Avon ZZ3 or ZV3 (memory escapes me). Predictable, very, very predictable, but reasonably low grip, and bald at 4000 miles. But it was a fun 4000 miles. Opps.

Michelin PS2 and PS3. Great when new, poor grip when old, but last a lifetime. Used to scare the bejesus out of me.

Dunlop SportMaxx RT/RT2. Earlier ones were better than later ones which were disappointing. Like all recent Dunlops, grip levels fall off a cliff at around 3.5mm

225/55/16 is far from an 'odd size'

Found on E39 5 series as a standard size, likewise various current Mercedes on 16" wheels

The Accelera Phi are a reasonable midrange tyre for budget money... As per my link, for £40 a corner you cannot go wrong

I know tyre threads cable a nightmare! When I bought the R26 it had mismatched Chinese tyres so I thought ' I'd better change them asap '
They stayed for 12 months and I really couldn't fault them . I recently put a set of Michelin ps4s on and yes they're better but it isn't night and day!
Is like something budget / mid range which is quiet and smooth riding. I've heard good reviews about three a tyres but I'd rather go with a recommendation from an Omega owner.

I fitted Landsail tyres to my 2.2 Omega, not bad for the price they’re a bit soft so don’t last long but you can’t have everything, however I have Federal RSR 595 fitted to the Evo, they are very good and re not too bad in the rain, they are a semislick tyre mind.

I go for whatever wet grip A I can get at a decent price. It rains a lot in the UK. I do 20K plus a year mostly on wet motorways. Uniroyal Rainsports on currently. Not cheap but last pair on the front lasted at least a year.

Wouldn't normally contribute to a tyre thread as we do all have our own choices but having had experience of accelera and landsail tyres on the Omega, I thought I'd chip in.

The acceleras were passable for something cheap to get through on MOT but chirped around every mini-roundabout and slow sharp turn particularly in the hot weather - got really annoying after a while
The Landsails were truly awful and the only tyres I have felt blessed by getting an irreparable puncture in. Wet weather grip was particularly dangerous.

Currently using Fuldas (owned by Goodyear) and have found them to be perfectly OK.

I still have an original tyre from 2003, not on the car as that would be dangerous. The OE fitment at the time was Firestone.

I've seen uniroyal rainsport 3s on Camskill at £80 for a 99y or £67 for 95y load ratings. Do we need 99y on our cars?
Only thing about those are they're very soft compound and don't last that long. I'll look online for some of the tyres recommended above.
Acceleras at £40 are great value. I know a decent tyre fitters that wil fit customer supplied tyres.

I also had Goodyear assy 2s on a clit 182. That car was all about cornering and the sidewalls were so soft it really spoilt the turn in. The previous budgets were better ( for that application )

Yes, 99... Especially if towing or estate...

Also bear in mind that the lightest Omega is 1,600 kg plus a 500kg payload...

Gross weight of a V6 estate is well over 2.2 tonnes...

I'm using the Uniroyal RainSport 3 225/55 R16 99Y XL and I'm very pleased with performance in the wet and dry. Now I've tried them out on the front and I'm just about to get 2 fitted to the back. Well impressed.

OK, not "odd", more "less common".

The Accleras are fine if you need a black and round thing to get a years ticket - for that task they are adequate. About the same as the Runways you used to like. Not really suited to those who like a spirited ride though.

The official Load spec for Omega is 93. However, handling is more precise if you pick XL variants (97 or above)

Uniroyal Rainsport 3's currently on my daily, fitted in November but will need changing soon. Very good, coped admirably with all the snow in Scotland in December and January despite not being a winter tyre!

I,ve got Nexen 8000s on the front of my humble Desmond. The rears, which were fitted last year are Nexen blue eco. Thats on 16" rims mind. I,ve got very good mileage from these tyres but, as always, it,s how you drive it i suppose.

avon zv7 .. high end mid range tyre cheap price... good in wet and dry and wear relatively well.. can be had from camskill under 80 quid xl rated

uniroyal rainsport 3 ... again high end mid range tyre.. very good in wet ... prettty good in dry but soft wall and can wear on heavy cars. also not the quietest thing again sub 100 a corner

continental premium contact 6 (latest version) is what im going for next as supposed to be very quiet (cabin noise not road noise) ... excellant reviews for dry and wet compared to competitors and again sub 100 quid on camskill

hankook ventus evo 2 i had one a mig once.. ok tyre... but noisy and wear too quick

On the Omega, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 are in a different league to Conti SC3, Conti SC5 (utter shite, wet or dry), Goodyear F1 (mediocre, but fragile), Uniroyal RS3 (Mediocre), Dunlop RT/RT2 (OK, but knackered at 3.5mm), Nexen N6000 (nice ride, poor grip), Kumho KU31 (good grip, but no feedback), Avon ZV3/ZV5 (mediocre), any of the budgets (universally crap), and any other tyre I've tried on my Omegas, with the exception of SportMaxx TT's

And I'll back that up with the fact I have put 4 on my last remaining Omega this year, including a couple about 6 weeks ago, at an average cost of £140 each (245/40/18)

I never drove my 3.2s gently, and yet the only tyres I ever had a serious problem with were Autonogrips
