El33t - well said, I think if we're all honest, most people would rather have the voice of a union standing up for their rights, but this government and a hideously biased media seem hellbent on making ordinary workers out to be the villains of this piece......seems it works on the simpler brains, sadly.....always will and thats just dandy for the tories, the bankers, the land owners - allows them to keep taking a little bit more for themselves see?  ;)

Not the BBC surely? I thought Evan Davis' s 'interview' with Francis Maude was very well balanced,............ provided that you are of a leftish persuasion. :-X

Very busy weekend, hard work, I'm absolutely knackered, but thoroughly enjoyable.

The last combat para drop was in '56 at Suez.

I detest the continual 'retrospectivism' (write that down) of Government decision making. If people join the paras and trained in jumping because the contract offered a higher pay grade, on the promise and expectation of a certain pay structure, based on the skills acquired, then that pay structure should stand for the duration of that engagement.

It may well be that it is decided that paratroops are no longer required, but why should someone who signed on xxx years ago, whose mortgage, schooling costs etc, are all based on an assumed income, be suddenly deprived of a significant amount of that income, when he has no opportunity to replace it.

There are not many jobs for paras at the job centre. :y :y :y

Interesting, but that is not a Mk1 Consul in the pic. I had a '53 model from '58 to '62. :y

Can I be the only one who sticks up for Lizzie here? She's a well-respected contributor to this forum and although her views weren't to everybody's taste, I hope she'll be back.  :-* :-* :-*

I got the impression that, like me, she had not got a clue what was happening to the forum, which turns out to have been a practical joke not understood at the time by many, (including me), particularly to the General Discussion, to which she has been a stalwart contributor, and as she was also feeling somewhat down at the time, decided to leave.

The problem with the joke was, apparently, that unless you were on the forum when it happened, and picked it up a day or two later, by which time there were so many threads it was impossible to read them all, you would have thought that the whole thing had imploded, and I'm sure that this is what has upset Lizzie, as it did me, until I was enlightened. :y

Personally, I believe that the current state of the country is, perversely, a direct consequence of the all pervasive Welfare State. Frank Field writes well here:http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/modern/field_01.shtml

I am very disappointed that someone - and I have no idea who - but clearly with some sort of admin rights, is playing with what is normally a very useful forum, and, apparently, treating it as their personal toy. A few weeks ago, when a couple of regulars lost their post counts, it was suggested that this does not help those who come on to the forum looking for genuine help from experienced posters, as measured by their post count.

What is going on at present is, in my opinion, utterly childish, and is not worthy of what is normally a very sensibly run forum.

Rant over.
