I'm sure these are cheap as chips from dealer or flea bay.

Personally I've always found the trade club pads to have very little 'bite' compared to the factory pads. Don't know if they use different manufacturers through time too, would imagine they do. TRW pads usually seem ok.

Brake pad material can have a big effect on the pedal pressure needed.

I've always found aftermarket (even GM aftermarket - i.e. not GM original equipment) pads give much less 'bite'.  The factory fitment pads are about £100 but the GM aftermarket ones are about £40.

Easiest way to test the servo is to pump the pedal a few times with the engine off (to exhaust any stored vacuum) then keep pressure on the pedal while you start the engine and you should feel the pedal sink when the servo assist kicks in.

Omega General Help / Re: Lovely service- now I've got a whine/whistle
« on: 07 September 2016, 13:31:58 »
So after lavishing attention on the old girl, there's two odd little whines/whistles appeared since the service...

Whistle - Hear it in the cabin - more so on pass side? Sounds like a Clanger in a box. Yes, a whistle, high-pitched but quiet, which rises in pitch depending on revs. My theory is it's vac related. I have changed the purge valve, and no more petrol smell on startup. Fuse pulled for SAI. The front multiram has been changed too. Nothing else vac related (that I can think of) has been changed.

Whine - Fractionally audible from interior, obvious when stood next to car. Coming from the front end. Disappears under any revs, so only occurs at idle. Pulley/ belt related? Will check for anything rubbing against the aux belt, but nothing apparent with a visual inspection last night.

Well, I'm confused!  :o ???

Something trapped under the plenum on re-assembly perhaps?

Was the purge valve visibly faulty, I get a petrol smell on startup too but can find no leaks.

It's usually the wiper relay that causes those problems not the motor..

Good feedback dbug, , thank you! I have a set of Victor Reinz ones waiting to go on the MV6 so will report back about those... £25 including O rings :y

Victor Reinz are the GM OE supplier I believe - at least, all of the genuine GM ones I've bought have Victor Reinz emblazened on the half-moon sections.

Yeah, I removed all of the AC components and used a non-AC belt

Part # 93181718 ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT (21.36 X 1900 MM)  W/O AirCon

Belt also has 6 PK 1900 marked on it which looks like a Gates part number to me.

Any joy finding it in your loft Steve?
