Title: Interior lighting wierdness
Post by: Andy H on 11 November 2017, 16:17:32
After 7 weeks away I opened the project MV6 rear drivers side door to refit a child seat.

When I closed the door the interior light stayed on and  nothing I do will turn it off now.

I have disconnected the battery for now.

Any ideas anyone?

The puddle light on that door doesn't seem to be working  - I don't know if that is significant  :-\

Check all of the courtesy switches . . .   had similar strange goings on as my CDX stands without use a lot.

The issue on mine also affected the central locking.   Would not central lock or open .  Is your locking working ?

It seems to be along the lines of the car thinks one of the doors is open  .  .although it is not.

I just looked at all the switches  . . .seem to think it was an earthing problem on a door pillar  :-\ :-\

Also  . .ever since that happened  . . & locking / opening is fine now  . . but it will not do a "reset".

But have never found out if it should only "reset" if it's  not working , if that makes sense  :-\ :-\

HTH  :y

I unscrewed each door switch, gave each screw a squit of WD40 and refitted it. No apparent change  :(

I then sat in the drivers seat and started to pull the interior light out so that I  could disconnect it. As I was pulling it out the lights dimmed to nothing and so I pushed it back in and normal function seems to be restored  :)

Really not sure whether the issue was door switches or interior light cluster  :-\

Problem returned - but with a twist.

The interior light now stays on after I shut the door but goes out when I switch the ignition on. When I turn the ignition off I get a strangled squawk from the lights on buzzer until I pull the key out.

As a short term bodge I have found that I can open the drivers door window, lean in from outside to switch the ignition on then off (to turn the light out) and then do a 'total closure' when I lock the car to close the window again.

Essentially normal behaviour... The half arsed squawk might suggest a failing contact within the barrel, should be a continuous version of the lights on alarm :y

Hmm
I don't think it is the barrel switch because the buzzer stops when I take the key out.

The squawk goes to full volume when I open the drivers door. I don't recall a "keys in' buzzer before with the drivers door shut so I will have another look at the drivers door switch.

Sounds like it could be the light switch unit to me :-\

Wouldn’t want to buy one without trying a swap first though ;)

I've recently had problems with the light switch. when I switched the lights on one day it started smoking and when I investigated it it turned out to be a regulator that had split open so I removed it. but of course now I don't have any dash lights at all so I need to get hold of one pretty quickly as its a pain to drive at night with no dash lights.
