Omega General Help / V6 inlet vacuume set up
« on: 07 May 2018, 10:03:28 »
So we’ve just travelled 1000 miles from Cornwall to Slovenia and decided I don’t think my inlet system is working correctly or ever has?

I’ve been through and checked everything is plumbed in correctly and I have vacuum but if I increase rpm the front actuator doesn’t move. With the car still running I can disconnect from the actuator and suck towards the electronic unit but can’t pull any vacuum, is that normal?

Haven’t started to look at the rear actuator that shud open at 4K, is it likely to work while stationary?

Omega General Help / Airbags self deployment
« on: 21 April 2018, 09:25:41 »
I’ve recently got my Omega back on the road and so far I’ve had both seat air bags replay for no reason!

First was the drivers side I was moving cars on the drive, jumped out n shut the door only to the first latch, didn’t slam. When I got back the cars full of smoke n a airbag sticking out of the seat!

A few days later just driving back from petrol station and a massive bang, the passengers seat has deployed aswell! No one in it so shouldn’t have gone off anyway.

I gingerly drive the car back expecting more airbags and disconnected the battery then the airbag ecu. I’m hoping this will stop any more goin off but I can’t really see anything wrong with the ecu.

Has anyone else ever had this before?

Omega General Help / V6 misfire possible multi ram issue?
« on: 28 March 2017, 18:00:22 »
I've been having a small misfire that comes and goes, mostly at low revs like 2k or less and on the odd occasion put the warning light on for a sec.

Well yesterday I fitted my spare coil pack with new leads, did the plugs last week. The old coil pack was split and little rust coming out so must have been screwing up, test run proved better but a cold start after work it still has a slight misfire while cold and I'm not sure if it's pulling up hills in low revs the same everytime.
One hill it'll do 5th gear up a hill and hold speed but another time lose speed when I don't expect to.

Now I know there's the valve on the intake and one at back of plenum but when should the operate and how do I test them? I've been searching for ages but didn't find much?

Thanks

General Car Chat / Any sorento owners?
« on: 21 February 2017, 12:05:21 »
Has anyone ever owned or had experience with a Kia Sorento 4x4? I'm basically having to sell my omega to accommodate her horse hobby :(

We're looking at 07 plates as they have the facelift and 168bhp standard, and xe model as they have 2wd and 4wd on demand. Everything else seems permanent 4wd and a very sensitive torque on demand system which can go wrong.

Just want to know anything else to be looking out for? Unfortunately the xe is the more basic model so not many have leather seats or cruise control.

I'm not excepting any automatics this time! It's just not for me

Just finished my manual conversion but need the gearstick gaitor, any condition as the leather can be replaced but the plastic can't.

Thanks Pete

Much appreciation if someone can move this to wanted please  :y

I'd been looking for a stainless steel exhaust for my v6 estate for ages but nothing until a jetex facelift saloon exhaust turns up on eBay, I did a deal and they guy was awesome waiting for a good time that he was travelling south for me to meet him, anyway it's way more work than I thought.

See here

Loads of small differences, tips arnt angled, different lenght pipes, all rear box brackets are wrong, pipes between mid section and back box are differnt angles and to short.

I was thinking a quick bracket tweek and lengthen the tail pipe would do the job but I started and couldn't stop, took a few hours of messing around welding and cutting over and over again but couldn't wait any longer for a estate exhaust to pop up and didn't want to pay £500 for new.

I'll get some pics tomorrow of the finish, it doesn't knock and looks square just don't knock the welding underneath hehe

After having one side replaced by a garage a year ago I wanted to save some money and gain some experiance.

I read up and found sizes for a puller and put together a kit, a nice 75mm socket worked as a tube and 24mm stud bar my puller, this worked perfectly and used a large set of stilsons to turn the nut, I guess getting the bearing out took about 10 mins!!!

Everything else was a pain in the butt, I didn't know the inside adaptor to driveshaft would be so tight on the splines. My puller was bending and had to shock the flange while using the puller which finally eased.

Getting the hub out of the bearing was more luck than anything, I didn't have a sliding hammer but found a old nut from a cv joint which fitted the inside thread perfectly and acted as a surface to sacrifice while I beat it out.

Getting that hub back into the new bearing was rather difficult aswell, I was reframing from hitting the hub as not wanting to damage the bearing, there arnt many ways to force it back it! I guess this is where I should have put it in the freezer. I ended up using a large g clamp and pulling it through using the back but and the old inner race.

I took some pics if they are any help to people.
This was the old bearing (video) :

Puller set up:

Getting the old inner race off the hub

The complete job took around 4 hours but easily less now I know the job, there's no way the garage should of charged me £180 and claimed it took all day.

I didn't need it but I have a back up way for a tight bearing, basically weld the crap out of it and it'll nearly pop out for you!!

Hi all, I'm having trouble with my blaupunkt cd changer, it was all working months ago then the head unit wouldn't except it so tried to reset the link but no luck.

Now today I had a play and it's working again but now doesn't eject the cd's, the button lights up but does nothing, I've unplugged it, disconnected the battery and made no difference. So I guess it's duff?

So if I have to replace it, can I fit a different cd changer, I'd like to use a 12 disc changer and maybe even one that supports MP3 assuming this would work? My only other option I can think of is a yatour system if anyone has tried before?

Thanks pete

Omega General Help / Has anyone blown a hole in this before?
« on: 27 February 2016, 09:42:34 »
Lifted up the bonnet this morning and found a hole in this pipe

Now I'm not even sure what system this is but it looks like the pipes gotten hot and melted the rubber which is worrying, as most probably know this is where I rear ended someone but the item itself doesn't look damaged? Can anything else have a knock on effect?

Thanks pete

Omega General Help / V6 head gasket or coil pack?
« on: 08 February 2016, 11:27:45 »
It all started yesterday, decided to tow my new trailer full of rouble to the tip. Soon as I started the car felt like its was missing and under powered and a funky fummy smell.

All the way it spluttered and under powered and even smoked, possibly blueish but not sure, so having today off I decided to check

The oil level had dropped to min, it was 3/4 last week before a 600 mile trip but it doesn't normally use any!

I'm guessing cool pack still so removed all the bits and checked style of plug on coil pack. I thought I'll take the risk and drive 4 miles up to eurocarparts and it went absolutely fine, no missing no smoke! Gave it some stick and no issue.

Don't know what todo now, shall I risk it and leave the coil pack? Or go through the pain in the butt job of changing it just to find it's the headgasket?

Cars a 3l petrol 74k and never over heated but as we know I smacked up the front a few weeks ago so a head gasket isn't worth replacing!!
