Omega General Help / New donuts / Poor handling
« on: 26 August 2011, 19:44:17 »
Put Omega in for MOT and I knew she'd fail on both front arms as DLK had shown me and rear donuts. All fitted new, but he failed her on 2 broken springs to the rear. Managed to get them today ( £43 a pair for Boge, which I believe are a good make ).

Now yesterday, before the new donuts ( Febi Bilstein ) went on, the 2 rear springs were obviously broken.......... she handled like a boat but was very predictable. Today, ( new springs get fitted in the morning ) she is stepping out on bends and behaving like an unruly teenager !!

I think I read somewhere on OOF that if the donuts were not fitted correctly, handling would become " interesting" Do you think it's the donuts fitted wrong or is it that the whole geometry is all to hell after such major work to the back ??

I will be booking her in for a trip to Chesham when all works are done, but she is not pleasant to drive at the moment.

Thanks for reading and any thoughts and advice appreciated.

Omega General Help / Wiper arm removal
« on: 05 July 2011, 20:13:02 »
Powersounder going off on it's own. Bonnet sensor has been disconnected for weeks no car horn and no hazards so it's the powersounder for sure, but it gave me no warnings !

Anyway ! to the point...........Following the guide I have got the retaining nut off the wiper arm, but it won't budge.

Is there anything else that I need to remove to get the wiper arm off, or is it just proving difficult to remove ?

Thanks for reading. Strange, since I started to work on the car about 20 mins ago it hasn't gone off. Silence.

Omega General Help / Back end noise
« on: 22 April 2011, 17:51:54 »
Folks,

Had my exhaust replaced from the cats back about 6 weeks ago and no problems. Last night, whilst stopped in " drive " at lights began to hear a vibration from the back of the car. Put her in neutral, sound disappeared. My drive is on a downward slope, so I was able to get under the car today. Exhaust is hung securely and is not in contact with the car anywhere it shouldn't be. Noise comes and goes, sounds like a vibration in time with engine. Any ideas please ? I appreciate the difficulty in helping to diagnose what the cause of a noise is over a computer !!

Omega General Help / 2003 2.6 Cambelt
« on: 16 January 2011, 11:53:24 »
Hi,

My first post.

I've been quoted huge prices £500 plus to replace the cambelt on my 2003 2.6 V6 CD.

Anybody in the Hertfordshire , Home Counties area know whether this is the going rate at a local garage or is there a cheaper, reliable place. Willing to travel and stay the night !! if it saves a few precious pounds. Also, had air con regassed in August as it had slowly lost it's cool and within a month it had lost it again. Garage assured me that there no leaks when they gassed it as they had found a minor one and repaired it with a £3.00 valve. Many thanks for reading.

General Car Chat / Focus anti roll bar links
« on: 20 June 2011, 18:10:17 »
Folks,

Your advice please ......... how much should I be looking to pay to have the rear anti roll bar links on a Mark 1 Focus replaced ?

Told it's a fairly quick job once the car is up on the ramp and that the parts are fairly cheap.

Local garage however has quoted £91. Highwaymen !

Thank you

A public thank you to Daz.

I drove 155 miles North for Daz to work his magic on my cambelt, water pump, aux belt and full service.
I was so pleased to switch my engine off in his workshop as the original belt had served me for almost 106,000 miles.
He talked me through what he was doing and I left with a better knowledge of how my car works and sound advice on how to look after it properly.

Now, I brought my overalls to help, but Daz would have none of it ( no extra charge ) and plonked me down in a deep, comfy armchair and introduced me to bacon and cheese oatcakes. Delicious !

After watching Daz eliminate an annoying knock from my poorly fitted exhaust, I parted with a very reasonable amount of cash and headed home very happy after a good day's crack !

Daz, well done and thank you for your spot on directions and generous hospitality.
