Title: When we finally leave the EU in March 2019.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 19 March 2018, 19:54:57
Well we certainly gave those untrustworthy continentals a bloody nose. They'll know better than  to mess with us again. :)

So when we LEAVE......First there is the little matter of forty thousand million pounds that we have to pay. How many Boris buses is that? ::)

And we will need to continue to pay EU contributions if we want access to the single market. As far dark foreign johnnies 'creeping in' no change there. All welcome under EU law.

And after we LEAVE we will still have to follow all EU laws but have no say in making them. The ECJ will still decide for us.

Last but not least they'll be stealing all our fish. I'm sure British fishermen will be happy. :D

I can't help thinking that Brexit will be so 'watered-down' as to be almost meaningless.

Roll on 2021.......unless the transition period is extended for another 2 years. ::)

After we leave the EU, I will take my dog for a walk, eat my dinner, have an afternoon nap and, after tea, watch some crap telly. Doubt I'll even notice, as you won't.

Well, I will certainly eat my dinner. :y

However, I don't have a dog, I'm not old enough for an afternoon nap, and I won't watch crap like Emmerdale farm and Corrie.

So maybe you'll not take your dog for a walk, eat your lunch, have an afternoon bonk, and after dinner, watch some BBC2, or take in an Opera  ?

Yes, its all panning out rather... predictably isn't it.

Hopefully Jolyon Maugham can get his way and I'll be able to sign up to retain my little red book.  :y

I had to smile when Ross MP for Moray said regarding the fishing deal.....

There is no spinning this as a good outcome, it would be easier to get someone to drink a pint of sick than try to sell this as a success.

Has there ever been a club so hard to leave.

I am impressed that anyone has come up woth an agreed figure. 40 sounds suspiciously like a round number plucked out of thin air. What happened to no one could or would ever be able to calculate Britains exit cost?

Well originally they wanted £100 billion so I think DD and his team deserve some credit for whittling down to £40 billion.  ;)

I agree that it's not much of a transition when the only thing that benefits the UK is that we regain partial control of our trade policy.  :-\

The EU on the other hand get to wave adieu to Nigel Farage!  ;D

Yes. If only we could have struck some kind of Mutually Assured Destruction agreement in relation to the Scrofulous Man-Toad, the whole exercise might just have been worthwhile.  :-\

No but he has a point.

I don`t think that anyone that voted for brexit wanted this outcome.

Churchill and Thatcher had the benefit of being PM when they saved the country. Farage wasn't even in the commons, due to electoral fraud, but there is ne doubt that he and he alone is responsible for Brexit.  ;)

Anyhoo, this transition thing is no doubt a huge waste of time, caused by a week & wobbly PM with no majority, losing her bottle, but if we get our full fat Brexit at the end of it, its not the end of the world.
It does however give more time to the Bliars, Mandelsons & Cleggs of this world to try to stop / reverse it.

Brexit was sold to the British people as 'consequence free'

We could leave and make no financial contributions but still trade exactly as we are now..... This would save us £350 million each week.

They sell more to us than we sell to them so we would have the whip hand. We could have our cake and eat it.

It doesn't look like that to me.

Spot on. It isn't just British waters, the Spanish fleet is modern and very efficient and operates everywhere on the planet sucking the seas dry. Madrid's fish market is the second biggest in the world only surpassed by one in Japan predictably. The Spanish make Brits look like vegans in terms of their fish consumption per capita. It isn't all one way. A lot of the British caught fish are sold by Britain to Spain because " they cannot sell it to the non fish eating nation of Brits!"

Canada and Spain had a diplomatic spat a few years ago over Spanish trawlers operating in Canadian waters.  All the fishing boats here flew the Canadian flag in support of the Canuck fisherpeople!  :y

With regards to the so called transition period, it seems to me that if HMG and the EU Commission decided that we needed more time to work out the end state of BREXIT, then we should have gone for an extension of the A50 period and kept our place in the EU Council and our MEP's.

With this half arsed transition or implementation period the EU could force all sorts of shite on us. Although I guess that when we are finally independent any shite we don't like can be repealed anyway.  :-\

It can. By then we will be out of the single market and customs union which may cause a headache of it's own.

We are Great Britain though and whatever scenario plays out I'm sure we'll thrive in the end. :y

Indeed. About the only concession we have is that we can agree (but not implement) trade deals. I can't see how they would be able to stop us doing so in the article 50 delay scenario you mention anyway.

As it is, the can will just get kicked on down the road with extension after extension, with us powerless to influence the things we are subjected to, because this deal is far from done anyway, with the Irish border and Gibraltar swept under the carpet in the hope that nobody will mention the fact neither of them are soluble problems as it stands.  ::)
