General Car Chat / going soft in my old age
« on: 13 August 2014, 18:40:40 »
Her C3 hasn't been used for a few days while we were away in the caravan. Got back & took C3 for its MOT a few miles away, drove fine all the way, started up for the MOT & the rad fan started running all the time & the high temp warning light came on (no temp gauge). The car thought it was over heating, but the draught from the fan was cold, so I suspected a failed sensor .... coolant temp?  :-\
Drove car back from its MOT pass  :y and connected my Maxiscan and sure enough it showed coolant temp sensor fault code. Drove it around the corner (Maxiscan shows the temp was 175 deg F .... not sure why it's reading it F  ???) to get a price from Citroen foe the sensor. Service bloke immediately said there's a mod for the 1600 petrol C3 ................he's picking the car up tomorrow & I'm paying a main dealer for the privilege!  :o :o

It's only a tank of fuel  :-X :-X

Mean while the Smart  is still away ................  :-\ :-\

I think I've got to the bottom of the thumping on starting off if I don't use a gentle throttle. This is the front engine mount  ???

Did anyone watch this last night on Ch 4?

It makes you have to wonder what goes on between the ears of some Americans  ??? ??? ??? The ex soldier trying to get his FOUR year old girl to show an interest was beyond belief IMHO. Surely a 4 yr old should be playing with dolls etc ..... not a bloody rifle!

General Car Chat / Another Omega bites the dust
« on: 11 July 2014, 14:57:53 »
I've just received an invoice from a recovery firm for 'removal, storage & disposal of vehicles....... ' of what was my Omega (DVLA must be on a go slow)

Presumably he's written it off on the motorway somewhere. I knew I should have removed the Irmscher 'wooden steering wheel from it before it went  >:(

Shame that, it had never wanted for anything  :'(

General Discussion Area / satalite telly gubbins
« on: 09 July 2014, 18:25:50 »
I have a Maxview twin lnb satalite set-up for my caravan. The twin co-ax cable goes from the twin lnb on the dish to two connectors on the back of the reciever.
What's the difference between this set up & a single lnb & reciever that only has a single cable? Would it work if just one cable was used?  :-\ I was looking at replacing our caravan telly and noticed that some have a built in Free-sat reciever as well as the Free-view reciever but they only have a single F connector. Could I use just one or the other co-ax cables from the twin lnb?

While his name might not ring any bells I'm pretty sure most of you know him for one reason or another particularly as Warren in Porridge or Captain Hans Geering in Allo Allo

General Discussion Area / wiring help
« on: 06 June 2014, 11:33:56 »
I recently bought a cigarette plug for my travel fridge  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151234620911 Just opened it up to wire it, expecting to find screw terminals to fit the wires .... but no such luck.

Am I soldering my fridge wires to where the resistor & diode are already soldered so the diode & resistor are across the feed to the fridge?  :-\
