Omega Electrical and Audio Help / radio reception / HRW
« on: 01 November 2012, 22:52:39 »
I want to sort the radio reception out when I have the HRW on. At the moment, switching the HRW while the radio is on, renders the radio un-listen-able. The aerial box of trick is under the parcel shelf, how's this connect to the HRW? Is it likely to be just cleaning connections? Am I in danger of pulling connections from the HRW itself?
TIA

General Car Chat / waterless car cleaning/washing
« on: 07 October 2012, 15:56:55 »
Anyone used any of these waterless products to clean their car? It doesn't seem right to me to clean a car without at least washing the cr4p from it using a hose or bucket of water first. You must surely end up with scratched paint with stuff like http://www.greasedlightning.co.uk/index.php  :-\  :-\  :-\

Omega General Help / squeaky steering wheel/column
« on: 28 September 2012, 23:51:39 »
Does anyone else suffer from squeaky steering wheel/column? The Omega doesn't really get the use that it deserves, but I notice that when I do use it, there's a plastic on plastic type of sound that seems to be from just behind the wheel/top of the steering column. It gets quieter the more the car is used ..... whether it's use or warmth that sorts it, I'm not sure.
No noticeable play anywhere around the wheel.  :-\

Suggestions on a postcard .......  ;) ;) ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alarm
« on: 27 September 2012, 19:15:30 »
I think I can pre-empt the answer but .........  ::) ::)
Just fired the Omega up today after a couple of weeks being sat idle (I was idle too  :y) The battery had been flatter than a very flat thing so was taken off the car & charged for a few days (Aldi's cheap 'smart charger') Fired up no problem.
Just driven across town, still no problems, and then got a half hearted chirp from 'a' horn. It first happened just as I'd adjusted the volume so thought that it might be a confudled resistance thing on the steering wheel controls. But, as I stopped at home, the horn started again as the ignition was turned off, still not a full horn sound, but more than I'd had a few minutes before. Turned ignition back on again & it stopped ...... well kind of. When out of the car, I could just about hear a very faint, pathetic chirp from the alarm's horn ie not the siren.
Is this the classic signs of a failed sounder? I know mine has been fubar'd for a while, Captain's 'TechII' told me ages back. Should I leave it till morning or should I put Gtr Manchester stand-by?  ::) ::) :y :y :y

General Car Chat / Any driving instructors in the house?
« on: 06 September 2012, 22:52:51 »
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?p=908728#post908728 (My alter ego is EmilysDad  ;)) and I've been told that driving an auto 2 footed is an instant failure on your test. Not that I would've ever taken a driving test in an auto.

Anyone able to confirm one way or t'other?  ??? ???
