General Car Chat / taxing a SORNed car
« on: 29 January 2012, 21:52:14 »
I SORNed my Astra last October & took it off the road. Today I wanted to organise road tax for Wed so it could go back on the road. Looked on the Direct.Gov/DVLA web site to see it if I could do it on line and surprise surprise it seems I can only tax from the beginning of January!!! It'll take till Wed for the disc to arrive by Snail Mail ................. Looks like I'll be in a Post Office queue on Wed  ??? ??? ???

I wonder where I put my documents!  ::) ::)

They phoned her this afternoon to say that she 'blew them away' at the interview & she's got the job! First proper interview too. She's no idea of salary!  ??? ;D ;D

We're chuffed!  :y :y :y

Just need to get my lad working now. .........  :-\ :-\

Omega General Help / New 'stat required
« on: 30 December 2011, 12:09:50 »
My Omega doesn't normally get much day to day use, but it has been over the last couple of weeks. On my way to work yesterday, after about 10 miles of stop start driving I noticed that the engine temp had managed to reach a heady 90oC - normall sits at 95 ie halfway round the gauge. I tried to get the temp up by dring it a bit harder on the lanes nearer work but could only get it to go up another couple of degrees and even then the gauge went back down again as I actually got to work.
New thermostat ordered yesterday.

« on: 13 December 2011, 23:59:49 »
My youngest sister-in-law is a teacher of kids around 9 or 10. As is the case at this time of year they were all practising their Christmas carols, one of them being 'We wish you a merry Christmas'. One of the kids asked when they were going to sing the bit ......................... 'So bring us some friggin pudding'  :o  :D :D :D :D

General Discussion Area / how long would you wait
« on: 06 December 2011, 11:55:33 »
.......... for something you ordered & paid for via PayPal on the evening of the 21st of November ie a fortnight ago yesterday?
I phoned last Monday to ask where it was. His reply was that he'd have thought I should've got them by now, he'll send it again. On friday I phoned again as they'd still not arrived. He reckoned they'd been sent Tues or Wed. Today's post has arrived & still nothing.
When would you raise a problem with PayPal?
I ordered these, they're only £10 but I wanted the bloody things to do a job while I was off work.  >:( >:(

General Car Chat / intercoolers
« on: 26 November 2011, 20:28:38 »
Numpty question time .....
The air - air intercooler on my diseasal Astra has the hot air that's been compressed by the turbo cooled by sending it through the inside of a radiator (intercooler) which in turn is cooled by an air flow across the fins ie air flow as you drive along.  :y :y

On a  'go-faster' Brabus Roadster there's a water filled intercooler.
Question ....... where's the water relative to charge air or cooling air?  :-\ :-\ :-\

General Discussion Area / is there a dog whisperer in the house
« on: 23 November 2011, 21:31:01 »
As a many here know, Molly the Mutt arrived courtesy of the forum. However we already had a cat, who, on seeing Molly disappeared upstairs & has lived there since. It hasn't really been a problem for either of them though.  ;D
But ........... on Sunday afternoon SWMBO found two young cats - maybe 16 weeks old :-\ - as the were cold & very hungry they were duly brought home and spent a few day and nights in the relative warmth of my garage. Notices were put up at mine & her work asking if anyone wanted them. So far no takers. I know there are places that would take them, but in case no volunteers come forward I tried to see if I could get the cats & dog to accept each other. Tonight Molly went into her cage (that she's not been in for a few months  :-\) and the cats were brought down in a cat carrier. One stopped where it was, but surprisingly, the more timid of the two came out ....................... till he saw Molly who barked. He shot back in the carrier & had an 'accident'.
Do I try to make them like each other, let them stay upstairs with the other she cat who has so far only spat at the kittens, or continue to find home/take them to Bleakholt?
Anyone here wants to step forward?  ::) ::) ::) ::)
