General Car Chat / Strange Astra Problem
« on: 30 March 2019, 07:29:02 »
Mrs AA's 1.8 Petrol 2005 (16k from new) has developed a strange fault.

It's happened twice this month.

Car is locked, radio off, been standing for several hours and the radio switches itself on.

No fault codes present.

What could possibly cause that?

Texecom Premier 24 started beeping 3 days ago with 'Battery Fault'

The battery was about 6 years old, replaced it with a new battery which has cleared the fault.

Interesting that the old battery was showing over 13v.

3 days later standing it's still showing over 13v.

As I have just received a nice tax rebate, decided to invest in a Nest Hello video doorbell.

Took about 30 minutes to install, I can see and talk to callers without answering the door.

It activates the existing chime and also Google Home mini announces someone is at the door.

Bought it at Toolstation at a discounted price.

Pretty chuffed with it.

To service the parking brake mechanism on my Merc.

Pop the rear seat cushion, remove plate (3 bolts) and bingo there it is.

Spent on and off 2 hours trying to remove the rear seat cushion, gave up in the end.

My hearings not what it used to be.

I was thinking of something like this :-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CG8T22S/?coliid=I2HWT6IF7GXEOU&colid=2QD9IRTUT18NJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

So that I can have them spread about the house, or are they a waste of money.

Appearing on Win 10 network.

I know they're harmless, as they're not accessing my router - but is there anyway to block them?

Internet not much help.

Do I just live with it?

Went on a coach trip yesterday (yes, I know, it's an age thingie), looking down into cars, or looking into lorries, I couldn't believe how many were on mobile phones, most looked to be texting.

Frightening  :o

Managed to persuade BT to give me their latest router for free (Home Hub 6).

Now using the old HHub 5 as a WiFi extender through the new hub.

(Awaits TB's negative comments) ;)

If I enter \\192.168.1.254 into my browser, it brings all my network devices that were showing offline to showing online.

There must be a reason :-\

General Discussion Area / Peculiar computer/network problem.
« on: 07 September 2018, 08:19:11 »
Configuration:-
2 desktop pc's cabled to router.
1 smart tv cabled to router.
2 printers wireless.
2 laptops wireless.
2 tablets wireless.
2 phones wireless.

Problem:-

If I  reboot or switch off either laptop, both printers get disconnected from the wireless and are not avaiable on any of the wireless devices.

They still show as being connected to the router.

This only happens with the laptops, all other devices still connect to the printers no matter how many times you switch them on and off or reboot them.

I have to reboot both router and printers to get them to connect to all the devices.

All devices, apart from the printers always connect to the wireless network when powered on.

HP have even replaced one of the printers, to no avail.

Tearing my hair out. The fault appears to be on the laptops (win 10).
