General Car Chat / I want a black Omega!
« on: 20 October 2014, 20:35:55 »
Aside from the fact they are faster, they also look the nads. I'm after a late(ish, with the new style alloys) Elite saloon 3.2 with CID and lowish miles (below 70k ideally).

If I  can find one, how much should I expect to pay?

Cars for Sale & wanted / Wanted: Omega Elite or MV6 estate
« on: 18 October 2014, 11:09:43 »
I will be selling the Zafira soon  :D and will be looking for a cheapish runabout. There is none better at that than the Omega. After an estate this time, prefer late Elite 3.2 would would also consider MV6.

What you got?   Zirk..?

General Car Chat / Servicing a Zafira
« on: 22 September 2014, 07:20:24 »
As above. I bought a Haynes manual to help me out as the Zafira forum is hopeless. I have a set of spark plugs and an paper element oil filter from the Omega. Can I use them on the Zafira?

There isn't a coolant drain off on the block so I guess changing the coolant would be similar to the Omega?

Brake fluid change. Anyone familiar with these cars will know the underslung spare wheel was often stolen so the geniuses at VX stopped supplying them on later cars and instead provided an inflation kit. I somehow use this kit with an Easybleed?

Is there a 'breather' setup on these that need cleaning?

Thanks

1.8 Petrol
2008 / 08 Elite with 58k on the clock.

Even though it has the Elite badge on it, there's a lot missing compared to the Omega. I really missed the Omega  :'(

General Car Chat / How far would you go/have been to buy a car?
« on: 04 September 2014, 22:07:20 »
It's new car time and I'm sure by now people know I want to buy a Vauxhall Zafira B. I'm not exactly spoilt for choice though, there are only half a dozen petrol 1.8 Elites (but over 200 diesel ones  :(  ) which means I may have to travel to the far reaches of the country to find the right one.

I've been as far as Manchester from London to buy a car but I was young and hasty. Can anyone offer some advice on how to prepare for a long distance purchase, particularly when buying from a dealer - when they realise you've travelled 100+ miles to view a car might not be so willing to haggle because they will have sensed your commitment.

General Car Chat / Calling Jimbob, Al, MarkDTM. Zafira B...
« on: 27 August 2014, 12:59:11 »
My budget has increased to £5K max and I want to get a Zafira 1.8 Elite petrol. Problem is there aren't many at this price range but there are loads of SRi models. They look nice on the outside but they are look very basic inside. In terms of spec and equipment, am I right in thinking the SRi is second to the Elite? Similar to how the MV6 is compared the the Elite Omegas?

I notice the petrol Elites have different wheels to the equivalent diesel models. Jimbobs Elite has the alloys I would like. Were they an option on the petrol models?

Vauxhall haven't made it easy. Can someone briefly explain the optional extras available so I can decide what I would like to have.

Thanks

General Car Chat / which text car history service?
« on: 24 August 2014, 19:23:52 »
So I will bite the bullet and view the Zafira tomorrow.  I want to check the history to see if it has been registered write off. I doubt a car like a Zafira would have any outstanding finance. I dont want to spend £20 on HHPI. Any recommendations.?

I'm in London and carless at the moment. I've spoken to the guy and apparently it came in as a part exchange. It needs tax and its on 85K so cambelt is due (are the intervals 40K or 60K?).

Just need someone to give it a quick once over on essential items before I go out there.

Thanks

Cars for Sale & wanted / Long shot. Wanted: Vauxhall Zafira
« on: 19 August 2014, 22:36:24 »
First gen. Petrol. Ideally 1.8 manual but will consider other engines. No older than 03 please and anything but the base model.  Few on autotrader but I know nothing about them and would rather buy one from a member here who won't sell me a lemon.

Mods. Feel free to delete if this against the rules.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Who knows about Zafira's?
« on: 06 August 2014, 08:09:26 »
After 5 years of Omega owners, the time has come to reluctantly say farewell. Its been a pleasure. But a growing family means it has to be done.

The first gen Zafira is the only replacement that comes to mind, up to 55 plate or whatever 2k can buy. I will be doing as much DIY as possible.  It has to be petrol so which engine is most reliable? What's the 2.2 like? What are the common issues to look for when buying?

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Owed money from previous employer
« on: 02 May 2014, 15:58:53 »
In 2010/2011, I worked as a subcontractor for a big construction firm. I was initially on 'pricework' which then changed to 'day rate' and they kept 5% of my wages as retention in case of defects. The contract states they would pay me 2.5% after practical completion (which they did - but only after threats of legal action) and the second payment would be made one year after PC.

It was well known fact that nobody ever received the second payment from this company and as expected I received a letter informing me my work was not carried out according to drawings and they would use the money owed to me to correct the work. I heard from a friend who still worked for this company that this was a generic letter that was sent to every subcontractor regardless of whether any money was owed to them!

I disputed their claim and asked them to explain how my work could not be according to drawings when it was inspected by their own supervisors and the clients agents and to provide evidence. This was in February and to date I am still waiting for their response.

My question is how do I take it from here?

General Car Chat / Just witnessed a hit and run
« on: 06 April 2014, 15:53:18 »
Honda Jazz reversed into a parked RX8. Driver only got out because a passer by shouted him down but then drove off after inspecting damage (probably to his own car). I spoke to the passer by who said he would probably get into trouble if he became a witness.

I put a note with the reg of the Jazz and my number. My once beautiful scratchless Omega is full of scars because of   arrsehole like that
