A deal might be done
« on: 19 September 2019, 18:11:37 »

Juncker seems to think a deal can be done.

I wonder if those UK MPs saying  a no deal shouldn't be allowed realise how much it has focussed minds. No deal might be less than ideal for the UK but it isn't good for a number of European economies either.

Mind you plenty might still go wrong

PS anyone see that the EU / South America trade deal TWENTY years in the making to cover 750 million people has foundered. How long will a trade deal with an exited UK take to strike.......

Well given that we will be starting from a position of zero tariffs, zero quota and complete regulatory alignment, it should be the quickest and easiest deal ever!  :)

But..... This is the EU we are dealing with, so I suspect that if we do leave with no deal, then FTA's with the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, India and maybe even China will be in place long before anything is agreed with the EU...  ::)

My guess is Boris will reheat the 'May deal'  and pass it off as a triumph for the UK over the evil EU. :-\

Mind you if the Brexit party find Boris is trying to pull the wool they might have something to say.

Normally I would agree, but I think the country and parliament are now so weary that just about any old 'brinoy' crap may secure a majority.

The good thing is that Boris and the truth are only passing acquaintances so he will probably tell them anything they want to hear to get a deal, with no intention of sticking with it. 8)

The UK have been given 12 days to come up with concrete proposals for an alternative to the Backstop and if none are forthcoming or the EU (more likely) reject any proposals, then apparently 'it's all over!'  :)

Parliament can huff and puff as much as it likes, but if the EU don't agree to an extension, then it will be all over!  :y

EU Parliament voted yesterday to grant an extension if one is requested. They want Brexit to fade away and disappear and so does our Parliament. We live in perilous times from a democratic perspective.

Best not ask for one then...  :-X

Didn't parliament do something a while ago that compels Boris to ask for an extension if nothing is sorted by Oct 31st?

The Benn law where it was rushed through Parliament is full of holes.

If Boris tries:

1. To get a deal & it is rejected by the EU he can probably get away without asking for an extension.
2. If May's BRINO is re-voted on and rejected he can definitely not ask for an extension.
3. If May's BRINO is re-voted on and passed, PM prerogative is not to complete the ratification and again he needn't apply for an extension.
4. Whether Boris can be forced to seek an extension with contempt proceedings is open to question under the Bill of Rights and also the 1947 Act that specifically excludes crown v crown legal action.
5. All this has got to be decided , appealed & judged by the Supreme in under 2 weeks or we leave.
6. Finally the nuclear option is for the crown to concede the Robin Tillbrook legal action that the extensions were illegally passed by PM May, so we actually left on the 29th of March.

The reason that Remainers are currently having a meltdown is that by the 1st November, it is odds-on we will be out of the EU.

Expect the last 2 weeks of October to be a 'living in interesting times' event, the likes of which, we are unlikely to ever see anything like it again in our lifetimes. :o :o :o

I don't miss it at all. It's as if we, in Barnsley, were never even in. No immigration problems here, the only black faces used to be miners, and even they've disappeared.  ;D
