Door Stays
« on: 16 July 2006, 09:48:05 »

Hi all
I fitted the strengthening plate kit to both front doors on my yr2000 CD estate about a year ago ,but the series of loud cracks still persist . has anybody tried fitting the rear stays to the front doors to see if that eliminates the noise? The arms are not the same length but I think they may be interchangeable.
Normally I would get a couple from a breakers and try it out but I'm now over in deepest Southern Ireland and there's no breakers about far less Omega's....

Hi, you need to read (or re-read) the how-2 guide here: http://omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152902108

in essence, you need to change the plastic bushes - that's what causes the cracking sound.

On my facelift miggy that's ALL I changed (as the bracket on the 'A' pillar has been half pullled off at the top on the driver's side I reckoned the door must be strong enough!) and no more cracking sound ...

To fully quieten mine down I needed to feed a lot of grease into the mechanism. Put a blob on the stay, close and open the door, then do it again, etc. etc.

The spring loaded arm bit inside just creaked and cracked as it did its thing.

Have the rollers inners deteriorated only I tried the fix only to find one of the rollers were knackered and in the end I removed mine until I can get a replacement.
