Oil filter

Hello eveyone, my name is Mark and i'm based in Beeston Nottingham.
This is my first post, so please be kind.

Currently changing the oil cooler on my 1995 omega 2.5 cdx auto, got as far as trying to remove  the oil cooler feeder pipes, to do this i realised i would need to remove the oil filter to get to them.
Tried a strap, and only managed to turn it about a quarter turn, so in desperation put a screwdriver through it to get purchase on it.
The filter housing and inner contents, including all the filtered crap, landed all over me.
So to cut a long story short, i'm now left with the outer ringof the filter only attached to the sump, with no means of turning it at all....Has anyone got any ideas????????????
This is the first time this has ever happened to me with an oil filter!!!!!!!
Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I can't offer any help - never seen an oil filter come off like that.

We have some excellent people here who hopefully can offer some suggestions...

Since it's useless anyway, could you use a cold chisel and club hammer to careful tap the outside of the ring anticlockwise? It should give after a few taps.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck.

Either that or file (using a dremel or similar) a series of notches around the ring.  Then, using an old screwdriver placed in the groves that you have made, hammer the end of the screwdriver and maybe it will turn?  I know that space is tight but it is all I can think of.

Will give that a try, i was a little worried about doing that as i thought it might strip the tread.
But it has to come off.

like you say mate it has to come off !! i would use a long screwdriver and hammer and try to get it to go ANTICLOCKWISE !!! ;)

You can do the oil cooler change without even removing the pipes - Just bend them up!  Its a bit of a bastard todo, but nowhere near as bad as having to remove them from the car.

To be honest, I dont recommend the bending method as it tends to loosen the unions that connect to the block resulting in the need to remove the oil filter and re-tighten them to stop oil leaking.

Would it be possible to use a chain filter remover I used one yesterday and it worked a treat.
