absolutely  :)

I have noted though, that a low mile car tends to not have as much rust as it's high mile ,same year equivalent, but that is not taking into account  other factors*

*rusty crusty sea-side cars   :(
cars that have lived in a garage :)
cars that are parked in long grass :(
cars that have had post factory rust prevention  :)

i think increased metal fatigue ,body flexing ,impact on structure plays a big part  :-\

it's just my observations, and , you do indeed need to closely inspect any car before purchase
Or buy a new one.  :)

I agree Dave. :y :y

When I bought my current Omega, and fairly recently, I have looked at buying a new car just to reacquaint myself with that new car smell and buy something that will only require standard maintenance for some considerable time.  Everything I sat in was boring, all plastic, with no big engines. Importantly they would all depreciate quickly and cost unnecessary tax.

Now, if I could afford a Bentley or a very top of the range Merc, you know the V12 versions with a Mclaren engine, then I could be tempted as I would have so much money anyway depreciation and taxes would not worry me! But until I come into a few million quid I'll stick with the Omega :D :D :D :D ;)

My astra is the first car I've had for ages that I don't want to change. It just kind of does everything that I need a car to do. It certainly gets along the road when I need it to, and I need an estate for the dog. Even in elite spec it hasn't got a lot of toys, just the standard leather, climate control (whatever use that is) parking sensors, etc. The kind of stuff that the courtesy car Skoda had, but that also had Bluetooth and sat nav.
The part I like best is mpg. I sat in the third lane at around 80 (roadworks permitting) yesterday to Liverpool and back. When I got home I checked and, over the journey, got 55. That's good for a 163bhp motor.

A fundamentally dead battery will do that on these ;)

Biggest problem will be rust.

That could be made into a very decent omega for around £3K, including purchase price. It's a good colour too. But, although folk on here pretend to be omega fans, it appears that most would rather stick pins in their eyes than maintain one.

That's the approach Ive taken with mine, despite 170k on the  clock when I bought it. It hasn't cost me three grand, but its certainly over two.
Might seem mad to some people, but Ive ended up with what I consider a lovely car, which needs little doing to it other than regular maintenance.
What else could I get for an outlay of two grand that would compare ? Not much imo.  :)

Two bidders seem pretty keen.
