Hi guys, is there any way to obtain new key and remote for omega?
I had an appointment with locksmith today, but he couldn't connect to Omega's computer.
My opinion on this is it could be because it's FL model with older V6 using older version of management program on new body style with remote boot opening... :-X
So after that I went to Opel dealer and after some search they told me the key or remote can not be bought anymore.
Any ideas? My remote is FUBAR , not only switches or battery holder...it's done. And it's the only key and remote I have.
My fear is that one day door lock could stop working and then I won't be able to get into car.
Thanks in advance, Stan

AIUI the drivers door and the boot can always be opened with the physical key. Just turn the key past the resistance. However you might trigger the alarm. Best to lock the driver's door knob from inside via the rear door. Then press down the knob and close the rear door. That gets the doors and boot locked with the alarm disabled.
Does your key have a separate 2 button remote to the key? Or does it have a key with buttons on it?

Facelift saloons don't have a lock barrel on the boot lid ;)

Three button remote, FL saloon. So no way get a new key/remote anymore?
-
What exactly is wrong with your remote? Is it simply a question of resoldering? For example...
If it's that the buttons are worn out, then they are available from Ebay etc... Also possible to use the flip key from Astra H/ Vectra C etc :y

I replaced buttons five years ago and it was working fine until I replaced battery a year and a half ago...Key fob just died - no response whatsoever. And it' s the only keyfob I have. If somehow door lock breakes I can't even get into a car

Any of my last suggestions will work :y

There is no difference (from programming point of view) between 1996-2003 Omegas, apart from alarm equipped cars the remote fob done through the ATWS (Alarm ECU), and non alarmed cars is done through the Central Locking ECU. The fob has to match the alarm/no alarm type.
The immobiliser is the same, and programmed the same, from 96-03.
Early Omegas (94/95) had the pesky IR locking, and that is a completely different setup.

Thanks for info, but how come the guy was siting in my car for an hour, changing three of his fancy programming machines and couldn't figure out how to make a remote to match to a car? It's not like it's a "friend who knows a friend told me he knows a guy who can fix it", they should be able to make it.

That I cant answer.
Was he attempting the immobiliser or the remote fob? Both need doing. I can accept a wiring fault to one ECU, but not both.

For the time and effort, you could probably get someone who knows what they're doing over to Budapest for the afternoon.
There's a flight from Gatwick at 10.15 which lands at 13.45, with a return at 19.25... I would wager that you could have two ready cut keys programmed and working by 14.30, leaving time for a late lunch, couple of beers and some sight seeing ::)

Budapest? That's in Hungary.
Ljubljana surely?
Anyway the newer type keys with an uncut blade, blank immobiliser chip and remote seem to easily available. The chip and remote need to be programmed to the car and that needs a Tech 2 or equivalent system and the passcode for the car. Multiple models of Opel cars have similar systems so your Omega is hardly a rarity. It sounds like you should look for ANOther locksmith who can handle an Opel. Or buy Doc Gollum a ticket.

:-[
It is... Which makes it more expensive as it will mean an over night...
Having said that, Venice isn't that far away, so plenty of scope for a cheap day trip :y
In my limited defence whenever I see Danzigfan, I always think of Hungary... God alone knows why :D
-
Being a stingy myself....Hungary is much better ;D ;D ;D
Well I'll try to find someone who knows what he's doing....thanks :y
-
I've completely lost track of what this issue is ;D but I have an ecu kit from a 96 V6 Manual with 2 keys n separate remotes if it's any use

Hi
I have read with interest the problem with only having one key to my Omega V6 Estate 2001 model, with alarm.
I have made a temporary repair to the 2 button key fob and as a substitute to soldering ( I have shaky hands) , I used super glue to attach the broken battery contacts to the mother board. It works but intermittent button operation due to possibly inferior battery contacts.
Thanks for the advice on locking the car manually , via the rear door as opposed to using the key fob.
Any suggestions to an Omega Owners forum member that I can possibly reward with business to either match the original key and fob or 2 new keys and fob for the Vehicle.
I live in Croydon area London.
Kindest regards
Squire 1.

Really you'd be better off starting your own thread.
I guess being an estate yours is two button as opposed to the later saloons some of which had a three button, for the keyless boot. The key, immobiliser chip and the CL remote plug together into one unit.
Martin Imber, also a member on here, offers a repair service for these keys. £12 to fix the battery holder. Or £17 to do the buttons and shell as well. Order through his website here (http://www.imber.me.uk/keyfob.htm).
However expect to be without the key for a few days. Also your superglue might be an issue, ask him.
Replacement remote circuits are readily available as are the shells and the buttons and blank ID40 chips. The battery holder is not so easy. However you would need access to a Tech-2 to program the new remote to the car. And also for the immobiliser chip if you replace that.
So repair/refurb of your existing key is very good value. Way less than the cost of a new key and programming by an auto-locksmith, assuming they are competent, which is where this topic started.

Estate fibs are 2-a-penny, and I think IanSoutham has a tech2 and is your neck of the woods... ...ish
-
There recently were a guy here in Sweden who inherited a 2002 Omega Estate Sport 3.2L!! It didn't have any keys but were not locked.
He was able to get a new pair of keys from the GM/Opel dealer, it did cost a bit but it then included reprogramming of the CPU.
May be worth checking out.

Jumping in on this post as my recent purchase is a facelift 02 model with no boot lock :D
The fob does not work I have emailed Martin Nimber so will hopefully get some luck with that.
I opened it and the battery holder is just floating around inside like a rat in a barrel.
The switch in the car does not work so to open the boot I have to climb through to pull the handle inside the boot not very easy for an arthritic 60 year old and will be fun if i get stuck in Tescos car parl :D I am sure it will cause a few laughs.
Is the interior switch near the radio linked to the key fob somehow? might try to fix this.
-
Or I could take my Grandchildren with me when ever I need to open the boot ;D ;D ;D

You know that you press & hold the switch? :-\
-
Maybe I did not hold it long enough but I suspect the battery holder inside the key housing should be connected to the circuit board? it is just loose inside.

You're not the first ;)

You probably won,t be the last either. Though they are getting rarer. :D
-
someone once said there was an official Vauxhall owners manual for Omegas
I think it's just a myth ;D

I'm sorry for bringing this thread back again....What if I can't replace the key...?
Let's say I could find donor car, does it have to be FL V6 or can it be PFL V6? Also parts needed should be ECU, transponder ring, working keys obviously...what more and is it a big job to do?
Door lock is acting strange lately :-X If it brakes I'll be stranded.

Thanks, I totally missed your post. :y
-
If I cut another key blade as the one I'm using now, shouldn't I replace transponder chip and ring only? Also engine ECU and alarm ECU, but the locks could stay the same in theory wouldn't they?
-
You haven't specified your problem.
If the locks 'bounce' then you need to overhaul/replace the motors.
If you only change the remote, you can keep the chip and blade from your existing key. New remote gets programmed to the car and that's it.
