I met a young guy the other day. He is an expert on all early Astras and owns a large double digit amount of them.

that sounds like a typical hoarder.

There's a similar 'expert' here who used to buy cheap but viable Capris and store them.  10 years later he has 50 cars that weren't worth repairing then(most of them were rotten low spec 4cylinder cars), and have been abandoned in a field since. He won't break or sell any parts or restore the few more covetable models because he has no skills or money to do so. Because he's a Capri enthusiast, and these are 'classic cars'

I owned a 1974 MK1 1600XL. It was white with a BVR which was popular back then.

It drove like a  lorry but when the cambelt snapped it didn't take the engine with it. :y :y :y

The there was something wrong with it.

Pintos aren't really known for cambelt failures, but only the 2.0l are non-interference. 1.6s might be OK if the belt fails at low RPM. And you can fit a new belt at the side of the road in 30minutes :y

I had a MK1 1600 GT in red. Like most Fords I have owned or driven, it was a bland, tedious car, but a reliable one.
