It was 'entertaining'. She didn't like it though. Didn't appreciate my 'scream if you want to go faster' comment!  ;D

Sounds like you may be in the dog house Broocie  ;D

I was, but sorted now.  :y

My first fear was the verge. 60+ degrees uphill with no kerb. If the car went up that then we would have been Harris over Tip!  Luckily nothing close coming uphill so had room to work with. Any other car there then would lay odds that the disco would have won but would have been messy.

One tyre, one alloy to replace and another alloy to get refurbed.   A cheap price to pay.

As per the late Sgt Phil Esterhause, (Michael Conrad) let's be carefull out there!  :y

Had a bit of a moment earlier today.

Driving my disco downhill into a country town round my way, not fast by any means, and crossed some field run off water. Car went instantly into aqua plane mode and headed for the verge on a slight right hander.

At the last moment tyres broke through surface and met Tarmac which ended up pushing car into opposing lane. Luckily no cars in immediate vicinity but there was a kerb and a stone wall round a farm.  Kerbed both offside but missed wall, thankfully.

Stopped further down to check and both alloys took a doing and front tyre has a gashed sidewall. No leaks but it's scrap and the rim has a buckle in it. Steering wobble became apparent and now gone since spare now on. Tyre only a few months old as well!  Rear will survive but rim needs refinishing.

Glad I was driving and not her otherwise it would have been a lot worse.

Hey ho.  Ho. Ho.Ho....

Yeah, consider all the above and then use whatever whisky you decide on for its real purpose: killing garden slugs ;)

That will be the Old Cameron, single grain then. Also doubles as paint stripper and tooth enamel removal liquid.....

Sorry bit of brain fade on my last post :-[ You can be fined for/get points for displaying an out of date tax disc, although it's no longer a legal requirement to display a current one.

Will be a VERY slow day for a cop to nick you for that.

And would get the punt quick/fast if it was even offered for Court process, I would suggest.....

As far as 'whats best' goes, just look at the pricing on any supermarket shelf to get the gist!   :)

Blends are cheapest, cheaper generally equals rougher, but the likes of Grouse, Grants, Bells, Whyte & McKay are quite fine for day to day 'cooking' whisky.  Personally, I currently favour Grants, but that's just my taste.

Single malts are a very different breed.  See https://www.malts.com/en-gb/whisky-guide/the-flavour/ for a hint more info.  It is just one multinational firm punting their own products but its a good starting point for reference.

I started with the likes of Southern Comfort and Drambuie but soon found them too sweet.  Moved to JD and similar bourbons onto Irish but then Scotch.

Started that journey with Glenkinchie which is a lowland malt from a distillery south of Edinburgh.  Rapidly progressed throught the Highland malts onto the Islay with their intense and strongly peated, almost medicinal, flavours.

Probably fried my tastebuds by enjoying Laphroig and lagavoulin a little too much and now enjoy the gentler and arguably more flavourfull Highland and Speyside malts.  I now flit between Old pulteny (most northerly mainland malt) and Highland Park from Orkney (great flavours of seaweed, think Iodene and similar) as well as Glenlivet.  I favour Glenlivet as its just sweet enough for me without being too oaky or rough.

You could either set aside an evening in a comfy bar and work your way along the top shelf or perhaps get a couple of friends round and get a selection of miniatures and work from there.

Not getting into the older is better, water or not, straight or iced, soda or similar arguments.  That's an individual journey best taken at leisure.

Slainge!!

The ferry option is not impossible, certainly from the Fife side as a ro-ro ferry ran to zeebrugge for a number of years. It's the Edinburgh side that's difficult as there is no suitable landing as such for the wagons now running the roads.

Big change between the 40+ tonners of today with 'heavies' of the 50's!

It is causing absolute frekking mayhem up here. Rail company are only grudgingly putting extra carriages on trains and few additional trains due to busy schedule. Roads infrastructure is so used to bridge that it's a quantum leap to put all that traffic back through small villages.

New bridge already open to supplement the Kincardine bridge which is upriver. Replacement Forth crossing already being built with plan to remove heavies etc from the Forth bridge as it was already known that the supporting wires were unexpectedly snapping more than originally planned.

Also tLking about reinstigating the ferry!!
