Omega General Help / omega idle problems( ecu)
« on: 05 April 2008, 21:38:42 »
Gentlemen, I thought I would join the Forum to flag up a problem that I have had with my Omega 2.0 litre auto 1999. It is now cured but I would like to share the information to other owners. I have had a couple of Omegas, this one for four years. I had a couple of problems with engine sensors TDC with poor idle about two years all done under warranty. The car developed an idle problem last autumn, intermittenly returning to high idle speeds 900 rpm, 1200 rpm, 1500 rpm, scary. etc The intermittent fault seemed to be dependent upon outside air temperature, the hotter the day the worse the  problem. It was investigated by two  Vauxhall dealers to no avail. No fault codes were ever seen, all hoses checked etc. changed. The main rubber hose  assembly (where one used to see a carb on old cars) was found to have a small split underneath, but the replacement nade no difference to this highly intermittent fault. In desperation I was recommended to contact a specialist garage in Lewes  ( East Sussex) who said that it could be a corrupted ECU( had I jump started the car , yes, but 6 months previous) The company was very thorough in their investigation, commenting on things missed by main dealers...My ECU was sent to a company that checks memory mapping. They were suspicios that the ECU was corrupted but were not 100%. The new one that they supplied has transformed the car. The engine is much smoother, the idle is spot on. 4 months on and the car is all OK . I thought that this information might be of use to other Omega owners

Regards

Malcolm
