I thought that you had to pay for a TV License now, unless you were eligible for Pension Credit. My mum is 85 and my Dad is 91 and they were told via letter that they had to pay now. This was following a rule change in June 2020.
They have paid for their current TV License, which was renewed in September 2020.
your right - for almost 12yrs i was under the knife having ops for what was diagnosed as Exercise Related Compartment Syndrome. i was a rigger & scaled heights with big weights on my shoulder & off a ladder onto a platform my right leg was always my push off leg & eventually i got muscle bound in that leg. because it wasn,t picked up by my doctor for 8yrs i ended up with bone problems which in turn left me suffering with shin splints. with being classed as self employed and my wife in work i couldn,t claim any benefits. hence from the age of 42 to 53 i had no employment history. best of it if my wife had worked 2 hours less i would have been entitled to income support. its a long story but when i reached 68 an organisation that look after ex merchant seaman & fishermen appointed a guy from Hull to check if i was entitled to any payments & consequently get pension credit. its not a lot but has other perks .dental care etc

General Discussion Area / covid vaccine
« on: 01 January 2021, 09:36:12 »
the doctors practice that i am with has apparently administered 70 doses of the vaccine . that got me wondering , whom decides the priority. also nobody should call the surgery, just wait to be contacted. a lady has written on Next Door Dalton that she was put on hold for two hours before she became No 1 on the call list.my guess is the surgery was inidated with calls regard the vaccine. all the lady wanted to report was ,her mum had been given the wrong pills

General Car Chat / Re: oil change
« on: 27 December 2020, 20:45:39 »
a neighbor checked the oil in his mokka & found it to be way above the top dipstick mark. he used my cheap mityvac & removed the excess which happened to be 1/2 ltr ish. he reckoned the local garage did the filter changes. if that is right should he pull them. ?
an update on the oil change. not seen much of my neighbor until today so i asked him how long was it in getting a service & it was two weeks. an overfill by the local garage it seems. they are usually on the ball but the young lad that does the filter change wants a rocket up the bum.

Depends how you were caught.  Camera van, radar gun or speed camera should be 14 days from date of offence. Spoken to at the side of the road and they have 6 months to prosecute. I think I've got that right but I'm sure someone will correct me if not.  :y
radar gun , exceeded by only 2mph given in a 30 zone i could be doing 34 & no penalty issued but i was doing 36mph.

i have been driving since 1964 & this morning i got my first ever speeding ticket . clocked doing 36mph in a 30 zone. been lucky though as i admit i dont hang around. the guy that copped me sprung out  from nowhere with a handheld gadget. the irony of it , is i was the fourth vehicle behind a tractor.

if you were no faster than the tractor that's odd because most tractors will have a 50k box or less so they are not capable of 36mph
i beg to differ with that as i know i ve been behind a tractor doing over 40

I never paid for my driving lessons, army taught me in a short wheel base landie. Double declutch from 1st to second.... or just crash it in.  ::)
one of my sons, ex son-in-law got is sorted in the army . now apparently licensed to drive just about anything. before he joined up he was a notorious car joyrider . pinch them ,wreck them then fire them. never caught though, hence never had points or diqualifications.
