Digital Dash
« on: 26 August 2012, 19:31:44 »

Has anyone fitted a digital dash to the omega? If so from what car and any problems encountered. I was going to fit some kind of plasma dials but ive always liked the digi dials and just wondered if its possible.
Cheers

Doubt you'll find a complete dash that will fit, seeing as the Omega's is pretty unique. So you'll have to manually fabricate something. Then you will have to have a computer behind it to control it.

Lot of work for zero gain. Just by a 24v Senator instead ;D

Not a bad result. I didn't realise how much I'd used the dash PRN321 on the my Senator till I didn't have it on my Omega.  :(

I'd have to have the 12v, never a fan of those digi dashes - one of the reasons I sold my MkII GTE...  ...the main one being the £3k insurance quote ;D

12v Sennie was a waste of time imo.The 24v engine was a stonking engine. :)
I loved the digital dash, going back to analogue took a lot of getting used to,and if it was reasonably easy to do,I would have a digital dash in my Omega like a shot.
Iirc the insurance for my Senator was around £150.Those were the days - only about 7 years ago. :(

Yeah, you're right, I'd have an Omega. Oh, I do. 2 of them ;D. And one of them is £175 to insure with declared mods :D

The digi dash was nothing to do with the of valves, it just depended on what the original buyer ordered it with. My 92 Senny would've had an analogue as standard because of its age, however it was ordered with a digital.  :y :y

IIRC, 24v came as std, 12v had it (after a certain date) as an option?

It was to start with, but due to not being popular, the default dash became analogue. Hence my digital dash in my 92 car had been ordered that way.  :y :y (Can't think of when the change was)

Digi dash was an option extra, as Albs said it had nothing to do with engines  :y

Around early 90s, it was std on 24v, with analogue as no cost option. 12v, IIRC, had analogue with digital as a (pricey) option. I fancied a 24 valver at the time, but couldn't afford one, but didn't stop me looking ::). And as a good mate worked in the local Vauxhall dealer, I remember being allowed a few (accompanied) test drives. I did have a brochure at the time, although my memory isn't as good as it once was  :-[

The other Vauxhall with digital dash at the time, the MkII Astra GTE (1.8 and both 2.0l variants), there were no other options.

Your very late Senny had a standard analogue dash ....... the digital dash, as in my 92 Senator, was an option then.

Yeah the plod ones had calibrated analogue dashes, one complaint of the digi dash was that it was a bit `optimistic ` but it never bothered me, I thought the large digital figures were ideal for our gatso infested roads  ;)

Nice one Murph!

Pretty sure all GSi Carltons (12v or 24v) came with digi-dash as standard and analogue as no-cost option throughout whole production life.  So a GSi with analogue was down to buyer choice and, arguably, taste.  Personally, I quite liked the digi-dash for the clear reading and extra gauges, plus you could flip between MPH and KPH.  Utterly useless in bright sunlight though!
