Looking to fit an over the counter CD player, I got the relevant filler piece for when I remove the VX original, will I need to replace the wiring harness or is it a universal one?

its standard iso connectors on the omega's, the only thing you might need to do is swap the perm live with the ign live, as some stereos are wired the other way round from vaux.

Only ISO isn't necessarily standard any more...

Have today replaced mine with a double din JVC HU.

If you want to retain steering wheel control functionality the new HU will need the facility, not all have it, and you'll need one of these:

You'll also need a patch lead to match the make of HU you are fitting,
PC99-JVC, PC99-SON, PC99-ALP and so on. The above link to Dave dnd's webpage explains it all.

I did indeed have to swap over the red and yellow wires as mentioned above, the harness adaptor has that facility so it's dead easy.

On the down side you do end up with an awful lot of cable to stow, especially if you go double din, achieved it ......just!!

Single din and fascia adaptor should will give you more room

I had trouble shoving mine in - ended up merging two addon looms into one.

I have a MD head unit, DOPS005 display driver, ISO-Sony lead, CD changer lead, phonos from CD phonos to amp and an unused other adaptor for Traffic Master but missing some wiring.

Yes, i have used small bobble ended allen keys in the past, but its possible to damage/pull off the facia on mine this way, the keys are available from halfords for only a few quid.

A facelift will have a 36way iso connector at back. The top block of this connector (20 pins) isn't really defined in the standard, so nothing will be truely plug and play

The pinout varies with which HU is fitted.

As mentioned above, with the use of the the aforementioned adaptors, electrically it really is dead easy, dependant on which model you propose to fit. Mind you having been an aircraft electrician for nigh on 30 years now, I suppose I would say that

Varies with HU. Get the wiring diag for your HU, will give you clues to what pin does what

I've had a look at the connector supplied with the HU looking from behing the top row consists of 8 pins which are the speakers.

the bottom row consists of another 8 pins and are labelled as follows:

Acc P.12v out Ant.Cont P.GND (Top)

GND Prk SW Batt+ Reverse (Bottom)

The speaker block is standard. The bottom block may vary slightly - eg the perm and switched 12v are normally swapped on Vx.

Still not happy,

I fitted the Double din H/U and works realy well. Only probablem I'm having is fitting the unit tidely.

Main problem is lack of room behind the H/U due to ISO lead.

Has anyone managed to overcome this and if so how?

So I'm assuming you can't push the HU in far enough??

It can be done:

I have a few questions:

1. Have you used the existing cage or the one that came with the new HU?
2. Have you used a harness adaptor or spliced the Vx cables.?
3. Do you think it might be the iso connector being crushed against the bulkhead at the back of the HU?

took about six attempts to get the excess cable to sit right behind the HU before it would push back far enough.

Managed to tuck most of the spare cable, harness adaptor connectors and patch lead interface connector up behind the hazard switch etc on the left hand side, also making sure that the Vx harness, which came in from the right was tucked in behind the cable guide at the back of the aperture.

If the Vx iso connector is physically contacting at the back of the aperture due to the depth of the HU, not sure what can be done about that

I'll have another try tomorrow. Obviously I dont want to push to hard on the cables and break the connection. Main problem is you just get the cables out of the way then you cant plut it into the back of the HU.

Not going to give up tho.
