Reading the Vauxhall VIN Plate
« on: 02 August 2006, 19:34:43 »

We get many questions about the Omega VIN plate and how to read it, particularly to identify paint codes etc.

So, here it is with the 'decode' info.

On the Omega the VIN plate is on the bonnet slam panel up to approximately the 1998 model year, after this it was moved to drivers side door B pillar.

In addition to this, the Omega also has a visible chassis number on the passenger side dash and a further one stamped into the floor pan by the drivers side (can be seen by opening the plastic covering flap).

Might be handy as a sticky

Chassis Number Plate Break Down

Omega up to Model Year 1998

Chassis Number Example:
W0L 0000 25 R 1 000043

W0L = World Manufacturer Identifier
0000 = Not Used
25 = Body Style (25= 4 Door Saloon)
R = Production Year (R=94, S=95, T=96, V=97)
1 = Manufacturing Plant (1 = Ruesslesheim)
000043 = Chassis Number
-------------------------------------------------------
Paint & Trim

Example E474            251

474  Paint Code
251 = Trim Code

From Model Year 99 to end of Production the chassis numbers changed, example:

W0L 0 V B F35 W 1 000001

W0L = World Manufactuere Identifer
0= Special Vehicle ID ( 0 = No Special)
V = Vehicle Platform (Not for Dealer Use)
B = Vehicle Designation ( Not for Dealer Use)
F35 = Denotes Vehicle Body Style ( F35 = 5 Door Est)
W = Production Year  ( W= 98, X= 99, Y=00, 1=01)
1 = Manufacturing Plant (1 = Ruesselsheim)
000001 = Chassis Number
--------------------------------------------------------
Paint & Trim Codes example:
Y 567        XXAI

Y=Paint Type ( Y= Solid Paint, Z = Metallic Paint)
567 = Paint Code
XXAI =  GM Drive Code Trim

There was also a special plate for GM LPG cars which can be found on the drivers B Pillar if your car came from factory with LPG fitted, Example

SKA 0 V B F35 4 M 000001

SKA = Secondary Manufracture ID (LPG Conversion)
0 = Special Vehicle ID ( 0= Not Special)
V = Vehicle Platform (Not for Dealer Use)
B = Vehicle Designation ( Not for Dealer Use)
F35 = Denotes Vehicle Body Style (F35= 5 door Est)
4 = Production Year ( 4= 2004)
M = Manufacturing Plant ( M= Millbrook)
000001 = Chassis Number

Hope that helps

Cheers
