For about the last few weeks almost on every ignition start the brake pad wear warning message has appeared on the display,despite no wear sensor being fitted for the last 18 months and both wires soldered and heat sealed together.The message can be cleared and doesnt every reappear whilst driving so it would seem the sensor wire bridge isnt at fault.

Yesterday as part of my scheduled plan both sets of front brake pads were replaced,and whilst I was in the nearside wheel arch I decided to have another look at the wiring.Just to be belt,n,braces I recut the sensor wire and again resoldered and heat shrunk the connection.

This morning went out to work and on start again the pad wear sensor message appeared and has continued as before only appearing on a ignition start.

Is is possible to totally disable this within the relay/loom or fuses as its now starting to do my head in.

Cant see and damaged wires from the plug up into the point where it dissapears into the loom inside the inner wing.

Sorry guys,to be kickin this up again but warning is now almost every ignition start,but not everyone.

Have thoroughly cleaned the connecter in wheel arch and double checked wirs from actual brake sensor are soldered together so sure its all correct...but message still keeps appearing.

How can you totally disarm this please

I'm pretty sure the wires are not to touch,  it's the disc that closes the circuit and illuminates the display.

So soldering the wires together will cause it to show each time

Could you just fit a wear sensor? They are very cheap.

I suspect turning the feature off would be Tech2 if possible.

The wear sensors are closed circuit until they get worn through by the disc causing the circuit to go OPEN circuit. You are describing a system that was on the Fords that my Dad had years ago

Later cars just had the one

Facelift cars only have the one sensor.

Usual way to disable is to remove sensor and join the two wires together as the op has done.

His issue is probably a break in the wiring before the plug.  Good luck in finding it

Just for interest, most Facelift cars have 1 - 3 FL here and the 2 W plate have 2.

Could be low brake fluid level.

Wear sensor was disconnected some 2 years ago as find them more trouble fitting as usualy break,and check pads atleast every couple of thousand miles anyway.

Sensor wires were cut and soldered together forming the circuit which in effect should stop message appearing.

This was fine for over a year or 20k then almost over night message has started reappearing on every start.

Plug has been stripped down,terminals cleaned and refitted.Wear sensor wires have been recut and rejoined /sealed with heat shrink so in theory all is sound.

Agree there may be a break in the wiring from the plug to where ever it terminates in the wiring loom,hence why I asked if it could be disabled with either pulling a fuse or a relay.If its a Tech2 then may need to just live with .

Stating the obvious, but it is the pad wear and not the brake light check?

Other than that, I don't think the function can be disabled.

Its the sensor resistive?

Could water have got into the shrink wrap?
I got this on my trailer i had all lights flashing

Front pads are 4 months old,new fluid in system and correct level.

Will have a look and see if I can trace the wiring up beyond the wear sensor socket on the loam and assuming there is sufficient cable accesable will cut and join as before with some amalgamating tape that way I have taken all physical joins etc out of the equation.

Just curious if it the feature could be disabled by relay/fuse

I wonder if the brake fluid level switch can become unreliable when old, as do header tank switches and washer fluid switches. Have you swopped it for a spare?

Just to clarify, the brake fluid level switch when low fluid throws up a warning light on the dash and has nothing to do with the low pad message in the message centre which is triggered by the brake pad wear sensor, or a fault in its wiring.   HTH
