Omega General Help / Re: The WORST job in the world????

No I haven't checked the leads .... I do have a multimater... the reason I thought Dispak was because it went suddenly while driving ...however having said that there is a bit of oil in one of the plug wells so now I am unsure.... are you thinking crankcase leak?

Sorry, only just seen this - replied to your earlier comment while on page 1!!

If it is the oil that is causing the misfire, you will need new HT leads rather than the DIS pack.

It will be a rocker gasket leak rather than crankcase leak.  Sounds like you have the beginning of rocker gasket failure.  There is a guide on here how to change them - look in the Maintenance Guides section.  When doing this make sure that the breathers are clear, again there is another maintenance guide.  Hope this helps.

in the mean time will I damage the Cat If I drive it lumpy for a couple of days ?.... I assume it will be chucking petrol down the exhaust

Not advisable to drive it in this condition as unburnt fuel will be getting into the cats and burning there and damaging them.

Good luck with the swap out of the DIS!

Omega General Help / Re: Just a few engine questions!
« on: 10 August 2007, 11:01:50 »
Poor starting will more than likely be a crank sensor - at least it was with my car.  Dead easy and fairly cheap to change.  There is a guide in the maintenance section.

Air con is as others have said.

I may also be able to help although I have not changed a belt on an Omega before.  Done a few transits though.  What is the nature of the problem exactly and where are you based?

Omega General Help / Re: What water for screenwash?
« on: 07 August 2007, 15:01:32 »
I use distilled water in mine (along with screen wash) not due to the heated jets, but more to do with the fact that I do not like the water marks that are left behind on the paintwork after the washers have been used!

NOTE: There should be a black dust cap on that shrader valve on the aircon pipe on the right.

HTH

Yep, I spotted that too!

Omega General Help / Re: Another one refusing to start
« on: 29 July 2007, 09:11:10 »
These were the symptoms that I had when my sensor started to fail.  Sometimes I would need to crank the engine two or three times before it would start.  I never had a non start situation though.

I since replaced the sensor and the difference in starting is remarkable.  First turn of the key.  It even seems to have improved economy and, when cruising, the engine revs are lower.  The last two points may be subjective and in my imagination though!

Changing the sensor only took me around half an hour, that included walking to the dealer and back to get the part!

Omega General Help / Re: location of oil level switch

I think that I am correct in saying that you cannot get to it with the engine in situ.  (I have read that somewhere in here a couple of times before)

Omega General Help / Re: Centre Console Lights
« on: 01 August 2007, 14:17:00 »
My Cavalier had this issue with the windows switches staying lit with the ignition off, drivers door closed etc.  I traced this to the drivers door switch making a poor electrical contact with ground.  I unscrewed the switched, used a small engineers round file to clean the dirt from the hole and refixed the switch with a new self tapping screw.  This cured the issue.

Regarding the gearbox lights - this apparently is a sign of the switch under the car beginning to fail.  There are a few threads on here about this.  Marks DTM is the real expert on this and I am sure that he will provide input shortly :y

Hope this helps

keep an eye on here for a good one mate, as for the one your looking at then i would say that  you should walk away. Dont consider anything that cannot provide any documentaion on BELT AND ROLLER change within the 40,000 mile/4 year spec. Ignor the published guide of 80,000 as vx changed it after roller failure, you will get a good one just dont be too hasty. Best regards Gary. :y

Great advice there and not being hasty is the first rule of buying a vehicle.

Omega General Help / Re: towbar snags
« on: 28 July 2007, 09:09:52 »
Hi and welcome to the forum.

The last two bar I fitted to a car was on my Astra some 13 years ago.  Then, I had to drill another hole to feed the wire from the 12N socket into the boot area and splice into the lighting loom at the rear of the car.

This would appear to be a logical approach here.  I know that others on here have fitted tow bars who will be able to advise better than I.  One thing though, if you are going to splice into the loom, please do not use those blue "Scotch locks" as connectors.  They are, frankly, rubbish and will soon fail.  Far better the use proper crimp connections with the correct tool to crimp them!

Don't know which tow bar you have, but you could also try searching the net for the instructions.

Good luck

Does that mean that the sensor is part of the hub then and is not available separately then?

Omega General Help / Re: Air Con
« on: 27 July 2007, 18:35:51 »
Generally, you set the air con on recirculation and at full speed, make sure all windows sunroof etc are closed and open the can in the passenger footwell.  You have to leave the A/C running for some half hour.

It then kills the bacteria that are growing on the evaporator which causes the smell.

Any kit you get should have full instructions on it.

Hope this helps and good luck.
