Air Con and Coolant Relationship !
« on: 17 February 2008, 20:34:44 »

IF the car is running low on coolant (not refrigerant) will this effect the air con.

I tried to use Air Con last week and it didn't seem to kick in. This weekend, during a few checks, I noticed she was almost out of coolant and was wondering if this would effect the Air Con or not.

The coolant and air con are separate things.
If the air con pump isn't turning could need re gassing.
If you are lossing coolant you need to find the leak, you have a V6 check the HBV, the resevoir bottle and cap :y

She hasn't got a leak....I did a complete coolant flush and renewal and noticed it being low during the first coolant level check....by which time I also noticed that the Air Con wouldn't kick in.

make sure its not leaking first.

As mentioned air-con and coolant are seperate systems.

3 things will make the air-con not work:

1) outside temp is below 4 degrees
2) gas leak
3) fubar compressor

With 2 being most likely (well, low pressure anyway)

What about ECON button - i.e. a/c won't kick in when pressed :question

If its not the climate pannel, (ie you can't set the climate digtially to 20degrees)

You will just have the button on the dash with the snow flake on it, however it still won't engage if its below 4 degrees outside.

And with it being -8.5 on the way to work today going to be some time before its warm enough!

I would add that a likely candidate for the gas leak (if you have one) is the condenser - this is the first "radiator" at the front of the car.
