Omega General Help / Re: OSF scuttle cleaning
« on: 03 August 2021, 16:43:10 »
Hi.  My experience of this in the past.......I made a cleaning implement by straightening out a wire coat hanger and bending one end by an inch or so at 90 degrees.  a little more bending the straight piece to maneauvere it easily into the scuttle cavity and you can prod out all the crud from the exit hole (facing forward) and then slowly and gently flush it out with  a watering can or similar.  Don't let water into the fan intake though about halfway up the cavity and definitely don't use a garden hose at pressure.  When cleared, clean and dry, paint Kurust all over the welding joints in there and other rusting bits and then a good brush thick with with waxoyl the next day.  keep coat hanger for future as an unofficial Omeaga tool - the scuttle prod!

To clarify....wouldn't disagree with Alnico Blue there, but unless you can buy the GM oil at a price other than 'stupid' money from a Vauxhall Dealer and if you have to buy a normal 5 litre from Halfords or other motor factor, a premium brand would be my best advice.  Own brands (I meant supermarket etc.) and cheaper oils will usually be near the more economic end of making and blending oils and was the only point I was making.  Gm is a premium brand too naturally as it is the car manufacturers spec.

My take on this would be........to take away some of your doubt and when you can given lockdown,......put a bottle of Wynns Lifter Treatment straight in your engine if the oil/filter is fairly recent and clean(ish).  Give it a fairly long run to let the engine get to op. temp. and run for about 15 mins  - start by letting the engine tick over at home with the odd rev til the fan kicks in, add the Wynns and then drive some distance preferably where you can keep the engine revs at 2.5/3.0 rpm - use 3rd gear if necessary - for 15/20 mins.   Drain oil overnight or longer if you can to get as much old oil out.  If your filter is recent, you could leave it as is - its not gonna harm too much and the small residual amount of Wynns is not gonna kill.  VIP - use a 'premium' brand of 10/40 semi e.g. Shell or Mobil - no own brands stuff or cheaper less well known brands.  After leaving the refilling as long as possible, put 5.4 ltrs back in if no oil filter change - 5.7 if you did.  It could be that on your recent cam covers change/sealing sees that a bit of silicone sealant skipping around that could part block the lifter temporarily.  See if that changes things and if not, its only cost you an oil change and the Wynns stuff as part of eliminating the cause.  Check oil level next day. Drain down is always gonna happen at some point and experienced at various lengths of time since last shut down - that will depend on your mileage, previous care re oil quality changes and temps at start up.  Main point despite all this,is that if it quietens after a short time it not a serious issue.   Ant.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega Colours.
« on: 21 April 2020, 20:25:51 »
I would agree with that.  When new, most 3.2 Elites of any colour were generally bought as executive company cars and petrol blue probably didn't fit with the then image as maybe silver would have - everything was silver in those days, BM's Audi's etc. especially company vehicles.  Mine was a previous Managing Director's car - the body colour, parchment seats and individual extra spec were ordered by him.  He loved the car so much that at the three year change cycle, he kept it for another two years instead.  At year five he traded in for a Lexus.  So, as it seems petrol blue was not the popular choice generally across the Omega range is maybe the reason why there are so very few at the Elite spec?

It was in conversation with Seweryn at SOS Feb. last year - either he or someone he knows keeps up to date with the stats of Omegas remaining - quite how I don't know, but he said there may be only 3 or 4 left of this colour and Elite spec.  Just personally, I have never seen a 3.2 petrol blue in all the years I have owned mine (since 2007) and I have done some driving in my time all over the UK.  Not to say there isn't any as you have one and the chances of coming across one if the numbers are that small would be a miracle.  Any other peeps seen any at any time or anywhere?

No doubt about it being Petrol Blue.  I have a '52 - petrol blue - thirty two' Elite.   Beige leather (officially called 'parchment') interior and Petrol Blue are not common - in fact I think there are only two or three Elites left of this colour but unsure whether they are black or beige interior.  Anyway, I think my colours and spec. and engine might be the only one around now depends on whether the other have same colour matches and colour screen and Sat Nav.  Hope so!

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 Rear Discs
« on: 20 February 2019, 16:53:31 »
Thanks to all for your replies and advice.  APEC(?) are available from where usually?  Although unavailable it seems, is Brembo a solid make then?  Thanks for the explanation of mirror light too - I moved an air freshener and noticed it for the first time in I won't tell you how many years I've had the car, cough cough.  Ant

Omega General Help / 3.2 Rear Discs
« on: 19 February 2019, 12:46:16 »
Hi to all.  Think maybe be needing new rear discs (vented?) soonish.  Fitted Brembo to the front recently but can't seem to locate Brembo for the rear.  In any case, I know that some 'after' brands are rubbish but are there any other reliable makes (if indeed Brembo is?) you guys would swear by?  2002 3.2 Elite saloon.  Thanks in advance. Ant

PS.  as a by the way, What is the little amber light under the interior mirror that shines at night for?  Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Battery replacement
« on: 22 January 2019, 12:08:38 »
just as an additional point.....my battery up to being replaced @ Mar 16 was fitted by vauxhall dealer with a spec. one level below the spec. listed for a 3.2 Elite (the original spec. had been deleted from Vauxhall). Even when it was new it always felt 'tired'.

Got a correct spec. Yuasa Silver battery from The Battery Shop, Swindon with a spec. of 80Ah and 760A and a three year guarantee. With the right spec.it made such a difference - so getting the right ' high numbers' on your battery is worth it.

Omega General Help / Re: Mv6 update suspension
« on: 30 December 2018, 18:35:24 »
a long shot maybe and I am not as technical as the previous guys .....but mine sometimes does that 'groan' and a slight 'cracking' noise at low speed steering use and it was put down to top mounts sticking a tad (or a tad dry).  Anyone else the same?

Does anyone know where there are any last specification 17 inch Elite wheels (six spoke slightly pillared look?) for a reasonable cost?  Thanks. Ant

General Car Chat / Re: Front indicators on newer cars
« on: 17 June 2018, 18:16:46 »
I find that a lot trying to second guess whether I thought I'd seen a slight hint of orange on the car that's oncoming the roundabout and wondering if he is gonna turn right or straight on .  Followed behind a meriva (I think) that has a tiny square 'two postage stamp sized' orange slit buried in the red lamp cluster that you can just make out.   The originator of this thread is dead right in the poorness and danger of it all!  Isn't there some european rules about the size of rear clusters etc. as I seem to remember that the new mini had problems trying to satisfy our masters t'other side of the channel about it.
