Omega General Help / Stranded in Slane
« on: 31 March 2009, 10:07:03 »
and it was all going so well.....

Working in Dublin for a few months and got myself a great flat just across from Slane Castle so I can listen to the concerts. Brought the miggy over and it loves the Irish roads. Parked up last night after getting some shopping all fine. go to it this morning and the starter is spinning away but not one of the 6 cylinders will fire.
Better be something simple as otherwise it may just end up getting cubed as there is no way I can drag it home from here.
Oh..forgot to mention, I have virtually no tools with me, not even a paperclip to check for codes
 >:( >:( >:(

Any ideas??

Anyone??

Omega General Help / NOW what??
« on: 19 January 2009, 17:45:35 »
There was me thinking I had finally been a good boy and found gearbox and someone to fit it for me.......

Box is in and it drives OK but apparently there is a fault code coming up of P730B. Was told there are a variety of possible causes but before I get into hassling the people that I got the gearbox from is there anything I should be worried about? Don't want to put lots of effort to talk them into paying for remedial work if it is more likely that I have to replace the box.

It's a T Reg 2.5V6 auto and I am 'assured' that it is the right gearbox but it arrived with the torque converter dismounted (didn't see it myself as I had it delivered direct to the gys doing the work)

Omega General Help / lpg rpm
« on: 07 October 2008, 23:34:51 »
I know I've seen it listed on here somewhere but just can't put together a search that locates it.....On a 2.6V6, where does the RPM line come from to go to the LPG system? I think my normal ham-fisted mechanical skills hae caused it to come adrift...going great on petrol but as soon as I change over to LPG it just stops and it was fine before I changed the cam cover gaskets

Omega General Help / Damn damn damn
« on: 21 September 2008, 18:34:29 »
Thought I was sorted after my last weekends work changing the cam cover gaskets etc. Was looking good all week on short-ish runs and even on a long run to Brighton and back yesterday (40-ish mile round trip) but on a short run today my weeping oil problem is back.

It is definitely drivers-side and a very small weep rather than real 'leak' but I'm not sure if I am going to have the skill and facilities to into the engine any further than I did for the cam covers. I also don't want to leave it as the last 'minor niggle' I left ended up costing me a DIS pack, a set of plugs, One Cat and most of an exhaust system as the unburnt fuel destroyed the Cat and the bits blocked up the exhaust.

Frustratingly it is not even consistent as having stopped to check the scale of it there was then not a peep from there to home and a repeat journey a couple of hours later had no problem until I was almost home.

If I can't solve it then the thing will go For Sale and as it is pre 2001 and is already LPG'd I may even get most of the money I've spent on it (I wish).

Omega General Help / OK,what did I do wrong/forget?
« on: 13 September 2008, 17:02:01 »
Spent a pleasant day changing the cam cover gaskets on my 2.5 V6 (thanks to all who have posted how to'd etc....would never have even tried it without those) and have it all back together without any spare screws/washers etc.
Starts and runs fine but I have the engine electrics light on and the paperclip test (once again thanks to all for that) shows 57 and 16.
I'm sure I have just missed a connector somewhere or something equally novice but I don't want to start pulling it apart to try to find it and end up in an even worse state.
Any suggestions for likely candidate?

Omega General Help / Quite alarming
« on: 05 June 2008, 10:46:16 »
Now here's a thing. Several times recently my alarm has gone off for no apparent reason, twice I have been close enough to see that no 'little gentleman' has been around to encourage it and this morning I was signing the postie's little book to accept a letter when it went off right in front of me.
The car is parked facing South so I wondered if it was possibly heat related? Clutching at any passing straw a bit here.

Omega General Help / That's not right!!
« on: 31 May 2008, 14:55:01 »
V6 has been running lumpy and a 'pre-test' ready for the MOT next week had it failing on emissions so thought I would give it some TLC.
Figured since I didn't know the history I would do the plugs as this is a really simple job right? Ha ha ha ha......
Got it stripped down enough to get at the plugs on the passenger side and it looks like the leads are not fully home although I don't have that magic clip thing that the manual shows for doing the job. Never mind I thought, put it back together and do the old paperclip test and see if that says anything....Yeah right....
Fit paperclip, ignition on...1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-9,1-9,1-9hang on a minute it's meant to be 3-1!  Start engine and watch again....1-2,1-2,1-2,1-9,1-9,1-9HELP
Anyone got any clues as to what I'm doing wrong, or alternatively what the fault with the engine might be?

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi all
« on: 09 April 2008, 14:09:17 »
Yep, another newbie without a clue. Worse still I don't even know the full info on the Omega I bought. Found the site when I was searching for answers on a problem I had and lo....everyone else gets it too, the ubiquitous ABS ECU fault.
All I can tell you about the car is that it is 1999 2.5 V6 CDX Automatic with 'all the fruit' as the guy selling it said. Oh, and it's been converted to LPG. That was the main reason for buying it as my previous car is to be chopped up into a trike (don't get me started there is a character limit on posts).
As I learn more about it I will update my profile, and once I have tidied it up I may even post a photo of it.

ps....where is the ABS ECU? Looked through all the info I can find but don't want to pull bits off without being sure it's the right one.

pps...yes I do know that little about it but it was seriously cheap. I paid less than the LPG kit is worth if I want to move it to a different car.

Cars for Sale & wanted / 2.5V6 CDX Auto up for grabs

More details will be added but my miggie is now available to anyone that wants it. It was going fine but a few days back it wouldn't start, turned over fine but not firing. It has been checked locally by a mechanic who followed the diagnostics and replaced the crank sensor with no joy. He also fitted a new cam sensor and could confirm it was now sparking but still not firing. I have no tools/skils here to do any work myself and it is just not worth spending money on so is available to anyone that wants it and can fetch it.
OK, now the downside....I am in Slane, County Meath in Ireland which will cut down my target audience a tad.
Car has been LPG'd (85 Litre cylinder tank) and was running fine and other than some rust bubbles on the rear passenger doors by the window rubbers in in pretty good nick (oh yeah, there is also a lovely dent/scrape on the bonnet ). Even had the phone working with an Irish PAYG SIM card.
Am travelling back to the UK next weekend (18th April) to drive over my horrible diesel Emina bus thingy since I have to have transport and if I haven't been able to post before then I will setup a link to pictures.

Alternatively if OOF want to have a 'rescue Leomas' party then I can provide camping space for about 100 tents in the grounds of Slane Mill and will even setup a BBQ..... ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Any ideas?
« on: 30 January 2009, 11:04:40 »
Firstly I don't know if this is the right section so Admins feel free to move it.....

I have been wanting to build a trike for a looooong time now but after continually failing to find someone willing to build the chassis for me I am going to have to do it myself so...
I have been told that car chassis 'members' are only fairly low guage steel and I am using the front end of a Rover as it will be a 'tadpole' trike so a cradle for the engine and then a simple spine back to the rear wheel. Making it easy for myself I was planning to use simple box section with cut'n'weld webbed corners rather than bending.
How thin a wall do you think I can use for the box as the thinner it is, the lower rating I can get away with on the welding kit?

ps  Volunteer welders welcomed if only to show me what I will undoubtedly be doing wrong

General Discussion Area / How embarrassing?
« on: 27 January 2009, 21:06:11 »
Having got off my backside and put in the effort to get my omega back in use, the last thing to do was sort out the LPG. At first it was switching over and then immediately cutting, but it had reached the point where it wouldn't even switch over.
Went to my friendly installer who had a look (I now know where all the bits are!!) and then replaced the relay.
It worked

Total bill £4 plus a pint for doing it there and then....time to get round to doing all this? 6 months   :-[

Just got the nod to say I start work at IBM in Dublin in a couple of weeks on a contract for a few months. Gonna take the miggy over on the ferry now I've got it running again and with a little luck I may get to meet some of the OOFers in the area. They can show me the better watering holes.. :)

Will make a GOOD change from commuting to London daily by train and I may even take all my rods and do some fishing

Was 'allowed' to watch the Dark Side of the Moon concert on Sky the other night and now it's Dave Gilmour and friends jamming at the Albert Hall.....I just know I'm gonna pay for all this indulgance

General Discussion Area / Hmmm Advice please
« on: 12 December 2008, 15:40:18 »
Miggie was in to have the thrust washer done but the guy seems to have got the wrong end of the stick but fortunately rang me before pulling things apart. He is now learned up and has suggested a replacement gearbox would be cheaper but with labour he is talking about £600 (as near as).
Worth proceeding or being taken to the cleaners?

IT'S NOT FAIR......booked the miggie in to have the thrust washer done and went out to clear all the junk out and I can't get in!!!!

Remote won't work so I presumed the battery was flat but the key won't open the door either. The key turns but the button doesn't move.
