General Discussion Area / Thrust Washer
« on: 06 December 2008, 12:58:44 »
When JamesV6CDX was down this way he suggested the problem with my miggie was the thrust washer on it's way out. I have been searching the local workshops for someone to do the work with no joy (Would have booked James there and then but he said it's a 2 man job and I'm useless....even get the tea wrong sometimes...plus I don't really have any area off-road to do the work).
Anyone got any recommendations in the Littlehampton (West sussex) area for someone that could do the work?

Had to watch the result from Strictly (but not the dancing of course) and that nice Mr Sargeant has got through.....

ha ha ha ha ha  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

All those people whinging that he can't dance don't seem to realise it is not a dance contest, it's a popularity contest and everyone is having a laugh at the judges expense

Got some darling little 'gentlemen' round here who are training for the ASBO olympics....just finished fitting a two camera security system as we seem to be target of the month for mindless acts like pebbles at the window etc.   >:(

According to the nice policeman that came to see us, kneecapping is beyond 'reasonable force', can't see it myself as at least it stops them running away.  ;)

Insert 'in my day' story here.........

Had a visit from JamesV6CDX today to hand over some bits and I shamelessly took advantage of his expertise to check over my heap. It has a few issues at the moment and the verdict seems to be that although none of them are too unusual or even that hard to sort out, they are beyond my skills and resources to fix as I have no off-road area to work in. Oh, and I'm mechanically hopeless.
Will be taking piccies and chucking them on my website shortly for all to giggle over but this is a good moment to check those bank balances.
Not sure what will replace it, may even have to go back to two wheels (a BMW of course, I do have standards) but it has been damn good fun.

Finally got all the problems fixed on my miggy and was taking the wife and daughter's to their cheerleading comp in Brighton when large clouds of blue/white smoke appeared behind me.
Pulled over to check and there is oil weeping onto the exhaust from the driver's side of the engine. I then proceeded to weep in company with the oil.
Now been brought home to me that I lack three vital elements in keeping this thing on the road...enough time, the right tools, any mechanical aptitude.
As a result, once the weather picks up I will be taking a series of photos which i willl put up on my website with a link in the for sale section. It's a '99 2.5V6 CDX with (apparently) all the trimmings that has been LPG'd so should be worth something just for the gas kit.
Bought this as my Company Car (am self-employed so I make the rules) and am getting a Lease car instead, although that doesn't stop me having a NEW miggy...

General Discussion Area / Another lesson learnt (I hope)
« on: 12 June 2008, 17:42:00 »
Been running with a bit of a misfire for a while now but thought 'what the heck....it's not a REAL problem'....oops.

Failed the MOT on emmissions which was a shock since it runs LPG so thought I'd better do something. Was driving it home from the Test Centre and there was a whistle from the back which matched the engine revs. OH thought I , must be an exhaust problem. Took it in and slowly the bad news has been unfolding.

Whislte was an exhaust blockage, caused by one CAT breaking up, caused by unburnt fuel coming out from one side, caused bu a bad DIS pack.
Moral of the story...when you know there's a problem look into it.

Lesson learnt, move along now...it's just a poor(er) man crying in his beer

Any of you leave your PC's running all day/night to save the effort of restarting it when you need it?
I'm one of almost 400,000 members of the World Community Grid which uses PC idle time to work on solutions for problems like finding Cancer cures, working on AIDS drugs etc (see link here --->http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org). My team is having a drive to encourage people to join up to the Grid (hopefully joining our team) and make a contribution to that effort. Lots of info on the page about what is done, how it is done etc etc...
If you are keen to do this then you can join my team using this link http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/viewRegister.do?teamID=V821SPD4BN1

Haven't been able to find a Miggy team so this will have to be second best  :y

General Discussion Area / Can it be done?

Got a 70's grade garage which is coming down as we don't have anything that we can put in there and open the door to get out of (I think it was designed for an Anglia) and will be putting up a new metal shed. Problem I have is that the concrete is that cute 'ripple' finish and I wondered if it was feasible to smooth it down in any way which didn't involve pouring more concrete on it.

Newbie I may be.....totally hopeless at mechanical things almost definitely BUT....got the refurbed ABS ECU in and all is working fine.
Have to dispute the comments about one of the bolts being hard to get in and probably best left out, all the bolts were a breeze but the engine end of the top hose!!!!!!!!!!  Used up all my swearwords and then some getting that back on and clamped...mutter mutter mutter.
Filled up the fluids and took it once round town and it was brilliant. All I have to do now is work out why it runs lumpy (both Petrol and LPG so that does give me a start point I suppose). Did try checking the plugs but as far as I can tell my V6 only has two, one front left and the other rear left. Can see something which might be the centre plug but as for the right bank, not the faintest clue.
Nearly forgot to mention, three hours to get it out and only two to get it all back...chuffed bunny or what.

Finally got off my backside and got started on removing the dreaded ABS ECU. Read through all the posts and was planning on a whole day to get it out but here I am a mere three hours later sitting down with a coffee with clean hands and rattling away on the keyboard.
Anyone who read my Newbie post will know just how inept I am and how little I know about the beast but thanks to Steve W's post about just how far to strip it down I succeeded.
Now to send it off to those nice people in Cowes (my old stomping ground) for a refurb.
With success like this I might even attempt to get the beast resentable enough for a photo, or then again...
