Omega General Help / Replace cats
« on: 26 September 2023, 08:02:30 »
On my 2002 3.2L Sport my cats are rattling and I have bought a new set.

I know it can be problematic to unscrew the nuts on manifolds and I wonder if there is a good method to do this without breaking the bolts holding the cats to the manifold.

Should I heat the nuts? Or can it be done without heating and still not breaking the bolts.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Pick up 12 volt under dash
« on: 10 April 2021, 21:01:49 »
I'm going to add a power outlet at the back of the center console, mainly for connecting a 12 V cooler for long travels. It will need at least 15Amps. I have already an USB outlet for phone charging connected to the wires for the 12V cig outlet.

I'm thinking of picking up a connection under the dash for this power outlet. Either one that is on by ignition or controlled by the same relay that controls the power to the inner lights and cig outlets. I will use a relay for the power 12 to the outlet.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Below is the panel with the outlets I'm going to mount. I added an image but it doesn't show up.

Omega General Help / Automatic gearbox misbehaving
« on: 29 September 2020, 15:32:15 »
On my Winter Omega that I'm about to take out now on October 1st I did an oil change in the Auto gearbox.

Oil didn't look bad and smelled as good as it can. Changed the filter too.

Now when I drive the car it behaves strangely. When standing still and I start the gear box free wheeling a few seconds and then hook up. In worst cases with a big tugg and muffled clonk sound. It didn't do this before the oil change. Oil level is OK.

I have used Valvoline ATF Dexron III.

I haven't driven it for a long run yet, just a few laps around the block. Engine is up to temperature. When it starts running it shifts OK and kick-down works.

If I put it in 1st gear it works as expected. The free wheeling is only in Drive.

What could have happened???

Thanks

My Xenon leveling isn't working, motors are OK and fuses too. So I suppose the control unit is wasted.
They are available on eBay as used so you never know if they are OK, but...

So I have tried to find it from advises here but there seems to be several suggestions on where it is mounted.
My car is a 2001 FaceLift.

Where can I find it?

Is it down at the foot well on the right side, where the central lock unit is placed?

I will provide pictures when I find it for others to see.

Thanks

I think I have problems with the feed to my reverse lights. Checking at the connector coming to the lights I have no voltage there. Other lights are are working at the rear.

Is there a similar switch as on the manuals or is this controlled in some other way?

Thanks

In my winter Omega the heating is not working properly.

It sometimes heat up and stay warm, but most often it blows half cold air. If I raise the temp setting it blows warm air but then go back to cold after a while. If I turn it up to max I get hot air. Same thing if I turn up the fan to max it blows hot for a while.

It seems like it has problem to keep the temperature to the value I set.

Could it be the interior temp sensor?

Engine is running at approx 88°C and gets warm with in a few minutes, Thermostat is recently changed. Coolant level is OK.

Omega General Help / Interior Cleaning advice
« on: 02 November 2019, 18:37:38 »
On the buttons in the car, like headlight switch, window switches and so on they seem to be coated with some kind of rubber material. They get dirty after many years and are difficult to clean. If I use interior cleaning swipes those buttons seem to become very sticky and the solvent in the cleaning swipes seems to dissolve the rubber coating making them sticky and goey.

Does anyone know of some kind of cleaning solutions that don't dissolve that coating?

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / XENON headlight motors
« on: 26 October 2019, 10:26:21 »
Is there a way to check the leveling motors for XENON-lights when the motors aren't in the car?

I have a few extra from cars I scrapped and I would like to check if they are good or not.

Thinking that I could connect them to 12+V and see if they move or not.

Thanks

Omega Gallery / Winter is coming, time to change Omegas
« on: 30 September 2019, 15:38:20 »
My black 3.2L Sport is now retired over the winter, I did promise Klaus (the German who I bought it from in 2017) that it would never see salty roads. So from today it will be resting in my garage until spring.

The Green one I bought last year and drove it last winter. It is a 2.6 Elegance that came with a long list of options. The last owners was couple of young kids that cut the springs to make it lower and put on 19" wheels. It looked cool but not my style so last fall I got it back to original look.

I was a bit late getting it done so some stuff had to wait until later. Now this summer and early fall I have fixed the last big things. One such thing was to paint the left running board. Since car was so low it had fell of. They guy I bought it from had a spare Omega so I got the running board from that car but it was white and a soar to the eye. I have now painted and also fixed some places with rust. It now looks good but not perfect but I can live with it.

This is how the green one looked when I bought it.

It has a long option list.

Limited Slip diff ( changed to normal diff since it was worn out)
Passenger front seat can fold down back rest to create a even floor with the rest of the Caravan floor.
Parking sensors (broken)
Navigation (changed to more modern stuff)
Automatic level control ( Not working and removed )
Leather interior

Just turned 200000 km on the meter so it has many years left in it.

Omega General Help / P0340 Cam sensor code after belt change
« on: 25 September 2019, 14:52:11 »
I'm depressed at the moment.  :-\ :'(

Had everything back together and firing it up and it ran really bad, not on all cylinders. Engine turn over and no mechanical sounds and sounds Ok until it fires upg, just running bad.

Got code P0340 and a P0300 (Misfiring) which it does.

The cam belt was properly aligned and it turned over OK when I checked the belt timing and it looked perfectly OK.

The cam sensor connector is connected.

What could be wrong? It ran perfectly fine before I started this job.

I'm a bit tired now after this and a few other things I've done to it the last days.

One thing during the belt change was that I had to remove the locks to get it on the belt correctly. It was off a bit. I held the cam with a ratchet wrench which was stupid. So it went away. I did turn it back to its position but could it really turn a complete 360° wrong. I mean it did stop and I could only turn it back to its proper position. Valves was hitting and it stop there. During this the crank was in position. It was cam 1 and 2 I had to do this on.

If it got completely wrong it wouldn't turn over, right?

Omega General Help / Changing V6 thermostat and that damn bastard bolt
« on: 23 September 2019, 19:19:45 »
I was going to change the thermostat and found out that my cam belt was worn, see other thread here. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=145621.0

It was a real hassle to get that "Bastard bolt" out and then the transfer pipe. But eventually I got everything apart.

But today it was reversing everything and put it back together.

I skipped the engine lift mount to make it easier to put it back, I made a 4mm spacer to fill the gap of the lift mount. I thought that would make it easier, but hell no. The oil stick wouldn't cooperate and was off no matter what I did. And it also seemed that the hole in the transfer pipe was off too. Maybe something with the new thermostat that made it align wrong. So I had to enlarge the hole and cut the oilstick bracket for more room for the bolt. That made it hook up in the right place and the "Bastard bolt" could finally go back in its hole and tighten up properly. Damn it took almost two hours!!

Omega General Help / Cam belt dust?
« on: 14 September 2019, 18:52:46 »
I'm at the moment doing the bastard job of replacing the thermostat on one of my V6 cars and I can see that there are some black dust and fuzz from the cam belt I guess.
Is this normal? Or would it be urgent to replace the belt before anything really bad happens.  I haven't seen this fuzz on other V6's  I've changed the belt on.

Belt was changed by former owner at about 30000 km ago, he let a shop do it for him. So it has about half of its life left.

Thanks

Omega Gallery / Old owner got to see his Omega
« on: 05 September 2019, 09:13:46 »
I'm driving down in Europe and took a little "detour" to visit the guy I bought my Omega from two years ago in Germany.

He was happy to see his old car and that it was taken well care of. He had it for 13 years as the second owner. He is a big Opel fan and also owns a Omega 500EVO and an Insignia OPC that replaced the Omega I bought from him.

He got to take it for a spinn out on the roads, he was very happy behind the wheel of his old love.

Omega General Help / Rear axle shaft difference
« on: 16 August 2019, 16:07:33 »
On my 2002 Estate 2.6L one of the rear axle shaft boots is damaged. I do have an extra axle shaft from a 2.2L car that  I would like to use instead.

My question is if there is any difference between these two. If I look at https://vauxhall.7zap.com/en/car/v94/m/7/2-3/ there are different part numbers for them.

To the eye they look similar.

Thanks
