Cannot see a gear lever. I presume it's an autos, how do you select gears?

That's the bit that "rises up" when needed.  :y

..and not the only thing to do so when his sister-in-law is around, apparently. :-X

I could quite easily see myself swanning around in that, it looks a nice place to be.  :y

Dare we ask what the MPG is M'lud?   ???   :o  Only for Tunnies research of course...  ::)  ;D

Although on reflection, if we have to ask we can't afford it!  ::)   :D   ;D

I can't help wonder if Opti will be going "on the pull" with this  ??? Maybe his mid life crisis sees this as being something of a f***Y magnet  ;D

Forgive my innocence, but I am curious.
Cannot see a gear lever. I presume it's an autos, how do you select gears?
Why is a man from South Lincs buying cars in Basingstoke?
Is there the ghost of a Mondeo lurking there somewhere?

The gear selector is a rotary knob that rises out of the console when the ignition is turned on. It's a gimmick, but fun. At least Jaguar retained a manual park release in case of electrical faults, unlike BMW. The same applies to the electric handbrake.

There is no Mondeo in an XF; the basic platform is shared with a Lincoln that we didn't get, although the Coop funeral directors use stretched ones as limousines.

It's a dial, it rises up from centre of the dash when you press start button.

Google it, it's very nice  :y

That's the trouble when you buy a posh car. They look at your trade in like it's a piece of shit if it's not worth £10000.

The standard Lord Opti question needs to be asked. "How much did you pay for it ?  :)

More than an omega and less than a Veyron.

No, trust me, even when you take in the previous gen XF S worth 17k they look at it like it's something you trod in, offer you 12k for it and STILL wan't to make their 4k on the one they want to sell you; that some poor mug was similarly robbed of the week before.  They do squirm a bit though when you point out that their arguements for justifying the high approved used price don't correlate to their ridiculous px offer.  It can't be both now can it tosswad!  ::)

100% correct.

More than £150 less than £1.7 million. :)

XF was on list of possible replacements, and I even managed to take an extended 6hr test drive in a 3l NA petrol one :)

Not sure I could live with the seats in the example I drove though.

Also, a step down from the Omega in cabin and boot space, and so much had to be done via flicking through pages on the touchscreen rather than a simple button.  Even the most basic stuff like seat heaters.

Its not entirely crossed off the list yet, as its the closest I've been to finding a successor, but the slight disappointment has made me want to keep the old Omega going.

(Lord Opti, put your fingers in your ears)
And I'd have to have an oil burner
.

True.

2012 year model was updated though so not as 'clunky' as older cars. Not too bad at all, in fact.

As for buying derv ........I suggest you have been spending too much time with that Tunnie chappie. ;)

I have disabled the ridiculous start /stop ECO mode which is so out of place, and too slow to react. :)

About average for a main dealer 2013(13) XFR. :)

Insurance comes in at around £300.
