General Discussion Area / 17 Green Bottles
« on: 17 January 2012, 00:30:21 »
Greece's bottle will fall by March 20th. :o

Bad day and Greece-Lite Portugal's bottle is beginning to teeter.  :D

Sarkosy is practicing catch and saying France will do nothing what ever it takes to stop their bottle from falling.  ::)

Germany with the implication of picking up 56% of EFSF and ECB losses since the S&P downgrade are now talking about knocking the bottle off the wall themselves.  :-[

Just another normal day in the life of the boys and girls who can't organize a P'up in the Eurozone brewery.  ???

General Discussion Area / France loses AAA rating
« on: 13 January 2012, 22:09:18 »
Couldn't have happened to a nicer President and bunch of politicians.  :y ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's the prices you pay for letting fellow country-men Jacques Delors and President Mitterard develop and impose a deeply floored currency union and then along with Germany being the biggest transgressors on the stability pact which limited debt to 60% of GDP and budget deficits to 3%, so all Eurozone countries felt they could ignore it. He who sows the seeds reaps the whirlwind.  ::) ::) ::)

Unfortunately, the fools in charge with walk away with their gold plated pensions, memoir royalties and large sums from the after dinner speaking circuit, not to mention a place in their upper house and the odd directorship. I feel sorry for the ordinary people who are suffering at the hands of these fools and will be taxed to pay back the losses the fools have incurred (which will include us, thanks Gordon Brown and George Osbourne). Before anybody says the population should not have voted for them, in many countries the politicians were all singing from the same EU hymn sheet, much like in this country.

Talks with Greek politicians and banks being asked to take 50% haircut have broken down, without that Greece won't get the next tranche of their servitude bailout money and will default, so the Eurozone end game gets a step closer. This means the banks holding the loan will lose 100%, except in the game of pass the parcel debt, when the music stops, it will be America  :-[ that gets the IOUs as their banks and insurance companies hold most of the Credit Default Swaps (default insurance).

As Merkosy scream more coal, more coal, the Eurozone express goes faster and faster, the buffers are now well in sight.

General Discussion Area / Turkey Charges Duchess of York
« on: 12 January 2012, 21:47:32 »
The Duchess of York has been charged with filming children in bad conditions in an orphanage without having Turkish authorities permission.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16531752

What's going on here cem?

If they lock her up I hope the Turkish prison authorities have deep pockets, as she is a minor royal by marriage with a major addiction to having a very lavish lifestyle.  ::)

Scientists are saying that without the rise in CO2 levels we would have an ice age within the next 1500 years.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-16439807

Talk about things going a full circle as this was a big topic among scientists in the late 1960's.

We now all have duty to emit as much CO2 as possible to stave off the next ice age.

So next time some bearded, cardigan wearing, tree hugging environmentalist is lecturing you on reducing your carbon foot print, show him this and tell him to stick his views where the sun don't shine.  :y :y :y

PS: Mr Cameron, please can I have all I have paid in climate change taxes back.  ;)

Just to get 2012 off to a spiffing start I thought I would get all of the bad new out of the way now:

and now the good news:

May all OOFers and their families have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012, so it is their best year yet.  :y :y :y

This is interesting. When I checked my local post code area 90-95% of fatalities are car drivers.

His autumn statement was full of bad numbers, what he didn't tell you is it will be worse next year due to lack of growth, even worse the following year and so on as his deficit reduction relies on the UK economy growing with all politicians giving unrealistic growth figures particularly for years further into the future.  >:( >:( >:(

The link below from the Head of Research at a London Financial Institution, is by far the best analysis I've seen on where the UK economy is right now, how it got here through the the absolute criminal recklessness of 'Team Brown' and where it is heading in the future with virtually no economic growth for a long time. This country is very deep in the brown stuff, mainly as a result of "Team Brown".  >:( >:( >:(

Knowledge and forewarning gives you the power to make the right decisions in your own and your families best interests as
sometime between 2012 and 2016 this country is going to be in the same debt driven death spiral as Greece. Once the Eurozone crisis is resolved by the politicians (unlikely) or by events and markets (they will force the issue to make a profit!), then it will be the UK's and USA's turn to be tested by the markets.  >:( >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / German bond sales failure.
« on: 24 November 2011, 14:51:15 »
The German's failed to sell their full allocation of bonds yesterday.

http://www.mindfulmoney.co.uk/wp/shaun-richards/does-todays-failed-german-bond-auction-signal-rises-in-bond-yields-for-safe-haven-countries/

Today German 10 year bonds are trading higher than the UK's

http://www.mindfulmoney.co.uk/wp/shaun-richards/uk-gilt-yields-below-german-bond-yields-show-that-the-price-of-being-in-the-euro-is-rising/

Reports coming from meeting of Germany, France and Italy today that they are going to issue an ultimatum that the UK should largely underwrite the Euro losses join the Euro or leave the EU. Please, can we have a referendum on this Mr Cameron

Germany is now paying the price of being part of a falling house of cards in the Eurozone.

This is the beginning of the end of the Euro in its present form I think. Fasten your seat belts and hang on with white knuckles (no I'm not giving my miggy an Italian tuneup  :y ;D ;D ;D), as I think the financial roller coaster is about to get very, very bumpy.  :o :o :o

General Discussion Area / B&Q and the rear view mirror
« on: 20 October 2011, 03:42:03 »
Last night I had one of those evenings. Went to the DIY store Bug*er all in stock and Queue (B&Q).

Out of stock of Artex Sealer, which is main reason I went there where I'm preparing to re-artex landing and stairwell ceiling, par for the course for B&Q in Farnborough to be out of stock, as store is about as much use as fried snow.

As part of their customer unfriendly friendly service you now have to pay £1 to release a trolley.

Anyway where I'm about to fit a new bathroom, I need to replace the flooring as it is non-moisture resistant chipboard and is past its best. In normal diy multiple shop fashion you have to move 63 damaged sheets before you get to the undamaged ones! So, eventually sorted, they can re-stack the reject flooring sheets, their fault for trying to palm off sub-standard damaged cr*p.

Next to the plumbing section, parked trolley at the end of the row, sorted out 40mm pipe for new waste for bath where the waste in new bath is in the center rather than the end. Just managed to catch Dick Turpin B&Q assistant removing my trolley towards stockroom, no doubt to relieve it of my £1.

Now, I don't normally out of principle use the self service tills, so I joined the queue for human service. But I was beckoned by a good looking B&Q young girl at the self service tills and who can resist a beautiful young lady. All went through and paid, but I left 3m x 40mm pipe on the heavy weighing section of till, doh!

Loaded up car, realizing I had left pipe at till, as part of loading flooring sheets in a hurry, as shop was about shut, hit rear view mirror with head. Loaded up car, found eventually place to off-load trolley and retrieve £1, but shutters now down on shop entrance, so got trolley collector to let me in to retrieved 40mm pipe.

Touched rear-view mirror and it fell off windscreen, now my self positioning, self dipping mirror, which it is heavy and now hanging by it wires, so now got to get mirror repair glue kit to fix again as I've done this before, doh.

Murphy and his blo*dy law.  >:( >:( >:(

Where I work from home and only do currently a small mileage in my car, in the last 300 miles: Crank sensor failure, puncture and tyre written off as 8mm bolt, deep chip in windscreen with small cracks, yet to sort repair, lost rh headlamp water washer jets, both keys intermittent, repaired one where battery terminal had broken, now got second to repair, and now rear mirror to repair. When will it end?  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I've still got cam-lifter problem to sort (engine tic-tic-tic), along with intermittent overheating problem (I think it is intermediate fan, radiator switch or relay) and cam cover gaskets as all I could afford at the time of head gasket replacement was top end gasket set with was non-Vx cam-cover gaskets, which are leaking.

I'm not a happy bunny at the moment.  :(

Omega General Help / Overheating Problem
« on: 10 September 2011, 03:21:25 »
Since I replaced the head gaskets, my miggy has had no overheating problems with the temperature staying at about 95-97 deg when driving around or in traffic up to 100degC before the fans kicks in which brings the temperature down to about 97degC again, until tonight.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I took the back roads to my local DIY store to buy some decorating materials for the weekend. It is about a 10 mile round trip with all of the roads 30 or 40 mph speed limits. On the way there I noticed the temperature gauge was higher than usual at about 100degC and on the way back it was the same with it going into the red with the overheat light coming on when I was stopped at traffic lights. I put the heater on to full heat which started to bring the temperature down and when I started moving it returned to about 100degC. Although the evening was hotter than it has been for the last few days it is hardly summer!!!!

When I got home after turning the engine off I turned the ignition back on to monitor the temperature without the engine running and again it went into the red. I could hear an electric fan running to cool the engine and I checked the header tank and the level was at max.

When I rebuilt the engine I replaced the water pump with a QH one and also the thermostat as I had had overheating problems in the past.

The oil cooler has never failed and when I rebuilt the engine all of the waterways were clear, with no limescale where I live in a hard water area (I always boil the water for topping up to remove an much limescale as possible).

The engine was not running rough at idle or feeling excessively hot, could the problem be the temperature sensor?

Alternatively maybe one of the fans not cutting in?

The radiator was replaced with a new one about 40,000 miles ago due to a leak.

The car with all of its reliability issues is now beginning to live on borrowed time as I'm a great believer that there is only one thing to do with an unreliable car.... get rid of it.

884
I was driving along when the engine suddenly died and the car would not restart. I walked home and got a friend to pick it up about 3 hours later with his recovery vehicle. Car started when he went to load on lorry and now starts ok on my drive. No EML light.

Is it likely to be crankshaft sensor? The only other clue is about 200 miles ago, I got a gearbox fault warning when I started the car and the gearbox went into limp (winter) mode.

How much are the crankshaft sensors, I have a trade card?

If it is not the crankshaft sensor, any other ideas on what it might be?

Omega General Help / Self levelling dampers
« on: 26 November 2010, 20:08:27 »
I was sorting out and adjusting the handbrake for an MOT today and I've noticed the offside shock absorber looks like it has a slight oil leak at the bottom of the rubber gaitor.

My question is where the are self levelling air shock absorbers, do they contain any damping fluid and this is a slight leak or do they just use air and I've got nothing to worry about?
