Anyone handy at auto to manual conversions?
« on: 30 May 2014, 21:36:20 »

I keep thinking about the idea of getting the garage to do all the heavy bits and leave me to fit the rest but it would be so much easier if anyone with experiance would do the full job for me?

I've been through the guide and it doesn't seem to bad but I know I'd take forever to do it :)

Anyone fancy a go?

you will need at least 2 persons when removing the air from hydraulic clutch.. plus that autobox is dangerously heavy (85 kg but feels much more)  .. either you have to make an effective change plan or get help from an expert.. also you need to mess with cruise control electronics ,road computer (tech 2- necessary for correct consumption values)  and remove auto tranny ecu..

Holy smokes 85kg..... That's more than me

The little bits I could deal with but no way I could do that gearbox swap. Atm my cruise control doesn't work, can't say I'm to bothered yet!

Thanks, that's probably the best idea yet but it is a 5 hour drive just to get there.

Don't expect I'll find anyone close tho?

Henry D is down that part of the world, so might be worth a PM... though he hasn't volunteered himself :-\

Failing that, I am a littleways along the coast... not a cheap exercise though by the time you've got all the bits and paid the time :-\

I can't think of a single reason to do that ha, I've just fully insured the car and using it as my daily... I've never driven a car that can do 55mph in 1st gear!!!!!

Beats me, but it's in black and white in the tech specs at the back of the brochure... Will try and post a pic of the page later :y
Thinking about it, the flex plate is probably 10kgs lighter than the flywheel :-\
