Help! Engine probs
« on: 16 February 2008, 21:04:51 »

Ok where to start, the car dropped some cylinders just before christmas and being the time of year i was a little skint so its been sitting since then, i got the bits last week and fitted them this weekend.

Ive changed the rocker gaskets because they were letting oil into the plug wells, all went well and no more oil however its still lost the 2 back cylinders so i got a new set of leads and after losing most of the skin on my forearms changed the leads, took it for a few miles drive after letting i warm up but it was totally gutless, took the revs up and it took a while (in 2nd gear) to get to 5.5k then the limiter kicked in.

The confusing thing is that it isnt showing any fault codes which i would expect if the coil pack is away, also my mate who owned the car before me had changed the coil pack (with some difficulties) for a re-conditioned one so i wouldn't expect it to fail this quickly but it is a possibility i suppose.

Has anyone go any ideas of what it could be? its still getting fuel which makes me think its got to be spark related, any help would be appreciated.

Just a thought, have you put the leads back  on in the correct sequence?

the oil leaking into the plug wells has probably knackered the coil pack,it doesnt take long

Could be the coil pack but it's also worth checking and cleaning the injector connectors. If oil's been getting into them it may be the injectors not working due to oil insulation, which gives the same symptoms, mmm, though usually you would get an error code for this.

Coil pack

If the coil primaries fail (which is the norm as they are the HT side) then you wont get a fault code........and you cant re-condition coil packs so it probably had a second hand one fitted.
