Omega General Help / Possible Battery Issue
« on: 07 November 2006, 10:58:50 »
Basically my Dads Black omega which I have been doing up seems to have a problem where the battery drains after 2-3 days the car itself is not being used as just yet as its been slowly getting serviced ready for its MOT retest.

Each time I have worked on the car its been run to help keep the battery charged does it sound like a duff battery or could it be the alternator is on its ways out.

More than likely its due to lack of use but i'm abit concerned it could be the battery or the alternator.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated

Omega General Help / Car Pulling to the left
« on: 06 October 2006, 09:24:50 »
Not happy was driving home from work yesterday (4pm) hit a deep pot hole in the road (passenger side) and now the car is pulling to the left when travelling and doing the same when braking and to top it all the Brake shudder has returned.

Worse part of it is the droplinks have only just been replaced so hopefully they will be ok.

I know the wishbone on the driver side is in need of replacing and am planning to do the two ASAP but for the moment would a 4 wheel alignment help to resolve the pulling to the left when braking and the slightly misaligned steering wheel.

Bounced the car suspension last night to see if there was any clonking noises and I couldn't hear anything.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Omega General Help / Ticking Injector + Possible EGR fault
« on: 26 September 2006, 13:46:43 »
Is a ticking injector something to be worried about only I ran the Black Omega the other night and there was ticking noise coming from the top.

The Black Omega is slowly being worked on in preperation for it re MOT test, just need the front wishbones doing and the rear brake lines replacing or cleaning up and front disc replacing.

Most of the other stuff is done.

Have used STP before would this be worth a go.

As the car is not being used at the moment although it gets run I have noticed a round patch beneath the car, and having looked at the bell housing appears to be wet, if this is the egr can this just be blanked off.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Omega General Help / Clonking noise
« on: 25 September 2006, 15:19:33 »
Now having done the front droplinks I no longer get the knocking but have now found I am getting a nasty noise when the steering is on full lock to the right and when reversing off a curb only on one side though.

I dont make a habit of bumping up/down curbs so not sure whats caused this.

My first thoughts was the drivers side front wishbone checked for movement yesterday and the front seemed to have a litle play in it.

Would this be the cause?

Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

Omega General Help / Suspension Knock
« on: 16 August 2006, 10:12:37 »
I have been getting the usual knocking noise from the droplinks, but I noticed last night when you push the passenger side of the car down at the front the shock absorber brings the car back to level but as you push down I am getting a nice clonking noise.

Would I be right to assume its the wishbone, possible bush failure if this is the case I will need to get it sorted ASAP as my MOT is up for renewal soon.

Any advice is much appreciated

Cheers

Omega General Help / Blue Smoke what to do next
« on: 12 September 2006, 11:45:59 »
Following on with my Blue Smoke issue after the MOT.

The car is now road legal again since the retest but I still need to solve the problem I am having.

It was suggested that the piston rings and valve stem seals maybe on there way out.

More than likely but I may have another avenue to try before going down the head off route.

Basically I know I need to get the rocker cover gasket replaced as there are signs of oil at the front running down the side of the Thermostat housing onto the exhaust manifold, I am thinking that oil has been seeping into the manifold as the seal is not the best due to the missing studs, perhaps burning causing the blue smoke.

You could smell it from inside the bonnet near the manifold so I think my next moves will be remove the exhaust manifold and rocker cover to see if there is any signs of whats going on.

I think before the head off route I may try my luck with fixing the above to see if it makes any difference.

And I will also need a new CAT as chances are its now on its way to being fooked.

Does the above sound a possible or is it worth just doing a full strip down and rebuild.

I was thinking of even doing a pressure test to see if it was the Headgasket.

Any Advice is much appreciated. :)

Omega General Help / Autobox advice
« on: 08 September 2006, 14:35:00 »
My sister has just been to look at a car and It drives in first gear and then instead of changing to second it drops to neutral/no gear. Reverse works OK.

Can anyone suggest what could be wrong with this I was thinking maybe the selector switch and being in need of a good service.

If the car is fixable I maybe tempted to tell my sister to go for it.

Any advice is much appreciated  :)

Omega General Help / MOT Failure 2
« on: 08 September 2006, 07:53:54 »
Silver Omega Now >:(

I took my car in for the MOT it was flying through until the emissions test, blue smoke was pouring from the exhaust and as a result it failed.

My guess is the Cat is on its way out.

HI CO levels and excessive blue smoke.

On closer inspection I found the car had break all oil in and the garage still carried on ragging the nuts out of my car.

Oil issue was my own fault as I should have checked it.

I guess I do have one saving grace and that is I still have 7 days to take the retest, although not sure whether to just get it done and put my mind at rest.

Got it home did a full oil and filter change full tank of petrol and Redex and took it for a long run to london and back last night.

*****Warning for those who use the A1 Specs camera between Stevenage North and South 50Mph limit****

To me the drive was faultless and having had the car running this morning the only smoke visible was white due to the cold outside.

Blue smoke I know is a possible sign of valve stem seals and so long as I can get it through the MOT if it goes tits up afterwards I will just get it sorted. (fingers crossed its was just my stupidity of not checking the oil causing the smoke)

I do have a concern though as the past couple of times on first turn over its died and the EML flashes, I did the paperclip test earlier to find out the cause and it was code 1502.

1502 Immobiliser control unit n/a

Just one thing after another, but has anyone had this code before.

If so any advice would be much appreciated.

Omega General Help / MOT Preperation woes
« on: 06 September 2006, 12:55:31 »
All this being done for the MOT tomorrow.

Finally started replacing the droplink on mine last night got one done so shall do the other tonight.

Absolute nightmare not sure how you can torque the top bolt but removal was a right pain in the arse and in the end took a junior hacksaw to the top bolt and from then on no probs.

Can anyone tell me though whats the recommended tyre depth for passing mine are about 4-5mm in tread and am not sure if they will pass.

Got a few things to do tonight check the lights I have replacement pair for the front to fit may do this so atleast I know they will pass although right bugger if the levels are all wrong.

Exhaust rattle which seems to be coming from one of the heatshields

Any advice is much appreciated.

Omega General Help / Pollen Filter
« on: 05 September 2006, 11:33:16 »
Just changed my pollen filter and my car seems to be running like crap now.

Is there a right and a wrong way to put these in should replacing affect the performance.

Maybe a daft question but thought I would ask.

Omega General Help / Black Omega MOT Failure
« on: 04 September 2006, 08:17:50 »
Well it went into the garage on Saturday for its test and a few thing I checked came up on the tick sheet.

O/s and N/s Front Brake discs corroded
O/s or N/s rear coil cant remember
O/s and N/s rear brake pipes
One fog light low output
Front Wishbones rear bushes excessive wear.

Now I dont think it faired too badly but I need to get the above work done for next weekend when its being retested.

Can the rear brake pipes be bought pre made?
With the wishbones I guess replace the whole thing or are the rear bushes easiest to replace?
Rear Coil how easy are they to remove only may visit a scrappy for that?
Brake discs I shall be contacting autovaux to day.

Any Advice given would be much appreciated.

Omega General Help / Radiator Problems
« on: 07 August 2006, 09:57:52 »
Have been fighting a losing battle, basically since about a week ago my rad has had a slow trickle and on further delving found a small crack in the rad at the top near the top pipe.

The car is driveable and the temperature is ok, I just need to top the bottle up every so often. >:(

Now I have been recommended europarts to be the cheapest.

If anyone else has any further sugestions as to where to get a new part it would be most appreciated.

Omega General Help / Auto Dimming Mirror Fitment
« on: 21 August 2006, 10:48:49 »
At the moment I have a mirror in position but not wired in which would be nice to have I have the connector and a piece of loom to the back of the mirror and I also have the connector which goes to the seat.

I've started to make the full loom but its proving time consuming and the fact that there are more cables at one end to the other.

It would be nice to have them wired to the seat but it seems a right PITA to do.

Is there a guide for doing the easy fitment or could someone tell me the method of fitting.

Cheers

Omega General Help / MID Display
« on: 17 August 2006, 12:04:25 »
Basically on my list of things to do is either replace or try to fix the missing pixel problem.

Has anyone managed to fix these or is it a case of find a decent replacement.

I had the test carried out on the screen when I went to see Theboy and there must of been atleast 4-5 lines out.

If anyone can suggest a good method for fixing besides using a hammer, it would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Omega General Help / Draiveshaft / Oil leak problem
« on: 14 July 2006, 11:56:14 »
Had a good look under my car yesterday to find the rear drive shaft coated in oil or something

The rear of the driveshaft unit seal there is no sign of oil its all on the front hope this makes sense.

Should I be worried?

Also I have been getting the annoying 'oil lack' coming up on the MID quite abit recently when parking on uneven roads and sloped drives. It looks like a possible sump gasket leak but not sure as when my car is parked outside the house there is no signs of oil on floor or anywhere else I park. But when I look around the edge of the sump its coated in thick nasty horrible stuff.

Does the gasket sound like the culprit?

On a good note I think I may have solved a rattle problem I have had since my clutch change, I found the heatshield near the centre exhaust join was sagging down and hitting the exhaust, new nut and washer and fingers crossed its sorted.

Any advice on the above problems would be most appreciated.
