Fanbelt tensioner?

Apparently mine has siezed and the belt has snapped!
I am being told this is a big job? can anyone clarify this for me?
What is should cost and tme etc

v6 aux belt? Not cambelt?

If v6 aux belt, just needs a belt and tensioner (£25 or £45 depending which bit has failed).  Easy enough job, if you can handle a spanner, you can do it ;)

Sorry mate my mechanical knowledge sux lol but def not the cambelt(i had that done)
its the one at front of engine going round so many wheels,and the top left one seems to be frozen and the belt in pieces?

aux belt, easy to do :)

is it the pulley wont turn, or the tensioner has snapped?  has the belt done any other damage when it snapped (sometimes they can catch on something an rip it apart)?

Notice you get quicker responses here than on the other forum you tried ;)

if its just the pulley has seized, remove it with 15mm spanner to check no damage to tensioner itself. If tensioner damaged, will need to replace (2 torx bolts around side, bit fiddly)

Sounds like bearing seized. New pulley with bearing is £15 ish IIRC.  Trouble is, it may have damaged tensioner spindle, in which case that needs changing (£45 iirc).  New belt I would imagine is £25 ish I would guess.

Thats what i have been told m8 when i got towed home tonight :-[ bearing siezed
sadly im not near to you im in Bristol but the offer is very much appreciated :)
Trouble is i use her for work god i see vauxhall ripping me off :-[
No good with spanners m8 im a roofer ;D

Why is it whenever you say v6 theres a huge intake of breath,then some hmmmmmmmmm errrrrrr ummmmmm then big job could be expensive :-?

People are scared of them...

You know the pulley we are talking of, try to remove, then check condition of the spindle (take a photo and post if you want second opinion)

Do you have a Haynes manual for your car?
If so chapter 1.8 fig 6.12 shows you the pulley that you're looking for.

Mate, sod Vauxhall, I'm only 30 mins from Bristol, I"d gladly pop down and help you replace that tensioner/pully and belt. It's a doddle of a job, if it's just pulley and belt, then 10 minutes, if it means replacing the tensioner, still less than an hour, and that's if it doesn't play ball.

PM me if you want and we'll sort something out. I won't charge you any more than a couple of gallons of petrol for the trip and a cuppa tea ;D

I'm please someone is coming down to help you do it. You'll see how jobs, initially beyond your skills, aren't that difficult after all, and will hopefully give you the confidence to try other small tasks, and keep the £s away from the dealers and in your beer fund :)

I'll second that.

When i first started doing work on my megga, i found it difficult getting a wheel off!!. TheBoy can confirm it was on his driveway!

However thanks purely to the fantastic people here I have:

Bought two other Omega's just as project cars!! I bought them usually though crap eBay auctions (poor pictures, rubbish description ect) and sold them for a profit, in one case doubling the cars value!!

My advice is, Omega's are so damn cheap get your self a really old one (if you have a little spare cash say £300) and practise on that. By doing so your not working on your pride and joy or main car, so you can really have a bash. Good job too cause i disabled the brakes on my first project car by mistake!  :o

Had to replace this on mine a year or so ago as the bearing was maing a god awful noise. 15 minute job with a 15mm spanner....probably 30-40 minutes if you need to replace the whole tensioner as getting to the bolts is trickier...

FWIW, Camberley Autofactors were by far the cheapest place I could get the kit from at the time.

I'm sure I've seen a torque setting for the idler pulley retaining nut but I can't find it in Haynes. You have to lever the idler with the nut and it always tightens up so I loosen and re-torque the nut after fitting a new belt. I can't imagine a dealer would bother doing that but it won't do the bearing any good.

I sent you 2 this week how strange i thot it odd i didnt get a reply.
Right to answer your question m8 its a r plate 2.5 v6 cd manual i phoned vaux to order parts and they (didnt sound to sure ) but i will pick them up on route home today!
Ill leave my number on your pm and hopefully you will get it this time,timing belt was done about 14,000 ago.

Dont know m8 but the belt was hanging under battery light on a quirk in the steering and temp shot up!

So i have the belt and tensioner from vaux thats the easy bit lol.

These are the parts i have
They are for a r plate 2.5v6 cd vaux managed to lose me lol
Tensioner=9202550
Aux belt=93181720

The attempt to 'tighten' bit just moves the pulley against the spring to allow to to get belt on. As soon as to release, the sprint will retension belt. It will be obvious when you do it, honest :)

A bit of a pain you couldn't get the bits for when we were initially going to do it really Paul, I've just had a look and my schedule is manic. I'm on nights until Wednesday morning, and wednesday I'm putting a Corsa engine back together. Thursday and Friday I'm in brackley helping Jaime with the Rover, and then Sat/Sun/Mon I'm on night shifts again, so getting down to bristol is looking like it's going to be about 10 days away!

If you're confident, maybe you should have a go yourself if you need the car for Monday, it's really an easy job to do! As others have said, 2 torx bolts up the side of the RH head, and it comes off. You may find it a bit fiddly around the air injection pipe, but it's do-able.

Post up if you get any probs, and if you're really stuck we'll still arrange a time to sort you out!

As per your previous post, the temperature will have gone up, because the water pump was not turning when the belt was lost. How high did the temp guauge go?
