Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Electric sunroof won't reprogramme?
« on: 28 December 2009, 00:12:16 »
Recently disconnected the battery to rid some fault codes following icv problems. Went through the handbook procedure to reprogramme the sunroof and it just won't play ball!? When I press & hold it for 5 secs in closed position - it opens, closes, tilts etc... If I press & hold in the open position it tilts, closes, opens etc... Managed to close it for now by pressing the button in open postion until it returns from tilt, then quickly let go just before it starts to fully open. It doesn't make a good seal because I have to guess when to let go of the button (when it looks about right).  I've had to leave the dial turned to OPEN for it to stay closed!? Now causing a big condensation problem because of the cold whether. Any tips on reprogramming, other than the full procedure stated in the user manual?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Delco CDR500 Code Problems
« on: 04 December 2009, 00:43:05 »
I'm new to the site & need some help to retrieve my radio code after disconnecting battery to reset ECU (just

fitted new crankshaft sensor after loads of problems and a Code 19). I am driving a CD estate with factory fit

Delco CDR500 Radio/cd player. Don't have original car pass and my local main dealer (W.J.King) is quoting £75

despite loads of internet posts estimating £20-£25 for a vox car pass. Browsed radio-code.co.uk (sws-solutions) but

my serial number is not on their data base? They want £15 for pre-order only! Hoping someone might be able to

retrieve my code??? My Omega is 1996 (N Reg) and Serial number for the Delco is GM0500T9043201 If anyone knows the

code I would be very much obliged... thanks, Steve.

Omega General Help / Oil Pressure Warning Lamp ???
« on: 25 October 2010, 01:38:42 »
Glitch or problem...?

Whenever I start the engine, all the warning lamps (eml, battery voltage & oil pressure) extinguish simultaneousy. The ABS, TC & something else (can't remember) extinguish with ignition switched on.

Since disconnecting & reconnecting battery a few days ago, my oil pressure lamp remains lit for about 1-2 seconds after starting engine? eml & battery lamps extinguish simultaneously then brief pause before oil pressure lamp goes out  :-/

It never comes on when driving but has never behaved like this before? Don't know if it's a symptom of a problem or just a glitch? Does this on cold start or hot start. Engine oil level is fine (max line on dip stick)...

any ideas welcome  :y

Omega General Help / Urgent help.. High Lamda Reading?
« on: 19 October 2010, 01:36:59 »
Took car back for MOT today, having replaced CAT & lambda sensors (not cheap) because previously failed on high CO... The CO reading is now fine but Lambda reading 1.04 (was 1.03)... nothing else wrong. I have one idea but don't know if could be the culprit? The manifold inlet gasket for egr isn't tight because of a previously cross threaded torx bolt. No visible gap but wondered if this would cause a vacuum leak?

Any help much appreciated, I've now run out of cash  :(

Omega General Help / Steady 4500rpm for 15mins... Blown HG?
« on: 27 September 2010, 01:38:31 »
In a desperate attempt to drop my emissions for fast idle test a local MOT garage unofficially locked my throttle at 4500rpm for 15mins to see if CO would drop below 0.3%

Now I have white smoke from tail pipe  >:( Could this engine speed for 15mins blow my Head Gasket? The mig was already nice & warm but she is 14 yrs old  :(

Is it likely or maybe just coincidental...

Omega General Help / Radiator Fan problem? early V6 model
« on: 30 September 2010, 23:40:26 »
I've been keeping a close eye on my coolant temp and fan operation following prolonged fast idle test at MOT.

My rad fan only cuts in when coolant temp gauge is showing 97.5 degrees. It usually cuts out about 93 degrees and this process repeats itself... temp rises high, fan cuts in, temp drops & so on. There is no steady temperature unless I'm on a run (wind assistance). When the rad fan does cut in, both a/c fans cut in too. So I have either no cooling or max cooling? Is this normal or should I replace rad thermo-switch etc.. Also should rad fan cut in low speed before temp rises to 97.5 degrees?

Any Ideas.. ?

Omega General Help / MAF Sensor Fault on P/FL V6 ??
« on: 21 September 2010, 19:54:42 »
I diconnected the MAF sensor before last MOT retest to see if it would drop CO emissions. It actually doubled the CO content. I knew doing this would generate a fault Code 73 "Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low" and it did.

I've reconnected the MAF plug & today reset the ECU (disconnected battery negative lead for 2 hours) to get rid of the fault code. Re-checked for codes & Code 73 still present? Does this indicate that my MAF sensor is faulty?? Also would Code 73 flash up if there's an air intake problem as opposed to sensor fault? thanks  :y

Omega General Help / ABS TC Warning Light Coming On ??
« on: 16 September 2010, 23:32:07 »
Twice in last 2 days my ABS & TC amber warning lamps have come on & stayed on whilst driving under normal conditions... As soon as I restart the car they both display briefly with the other check lamps and go out as they should & stay off? If there is an ABS fault would they not stay on each time I use the car? any help appreciated  :y

HC limit 200ppm - actual value 145 PASS

Omega General Help / HT Lead not snapping on to the plug?
« on: 07 September 2010, 01:07:40 »
after recently changing the spark plugs I noticed that one lead wouldn't snap down onto the plug? pulled the lead back of the new plug (just fitted) and tried it on an old plug... still no audible 'snap' and not holding tight. Looked inside the boot & the female contact looks fine... rounded and not damaged.

The plug pushes in to the correct depth but feels likes it's only just making contact & no resistance pulling the plug back out.

Car is running fine, so definately enough contact to fire the plug but I'm guessing with engine vibration it could only be a matter of time before it misfires.

Can't access distributor to replace the lead so wondered if there's a way I can make the connection more secure? i.e. slightly crimp the contact, put something inside it etc..

any ideas welcome  :y

Omega General Help / MAF removal - Rich or Lean ???
« on: 05 September 2010, 02:07:19 »
On the 2.5 petrol V6 would removal of the MAF sensor cause the engine to run more rich or more lean? still tweaking the mig to try and get the mixture right... fast running out of options  :-/

Omega General Help / Blocking off EGR Valve...

I'm going to be sealing off my egr valve, some time soon... tin can etc.. question is whether this will increase CO, HC etc. Already trying to get my CO down for 2nd MOT retest and don't want to make it worse.  Should I wait til after MOT?

Omega General Help / Front & Rear Aspect Ratio (Tyres)
« on: 21 August 2010, 00:47:26 »
I'm running on 205/65 tyres and just been offered a nice pair of 205/60's... I know that tyres must be matching pairs so thats not an issue.... question is: if I run 65's on the rear and 60's on the front would it cause any problems? not talking about MOT requirements etc.. just practical implications; i.e. ABS/TC (picking up different wheel speed?) or speedo reading being thrown out of kilter... and do I have wheel speed sensors all round or just the (rear) driving wheels. Are sensors sensors same for ABS/TC as for Speedo? thanks. theoretical question only, so, informed opinions only please... don't want an onslaught of criticism :y

Omega General Help / how to clean headlamp unit?
« on: 21 August 2010, 23:53:03 »
Recent MOT listed my drivers side headlamp cover as an advisory item: Offside front direction indicators slightly discoloured [1.4.A.2d]Bulb is fine but there is a brownish/yellow film over the outside perspex cover. it's not misted up inside & washing the outside won't shift it... was thinking of using some carb cleaner to shift it but don't want to ruin the perspex (or are they glass  :-? ) any ideas, welcome... Don't like having any advisory items  >:( nice clean pass is much better :)
