Brake Discs & Pads
« on: 23 September 2010, 09:23:13 »

 :-? Morning.
The Warning display on my car now says "Brake Pad" and on inspection through the spokes the front discs appear pretty scored too.
I dont want to pay silly Vauxhall prices. There are some really good buy's on Ebay ie Mintex discs & pads for £50 (I think these are a decent make?)
2 questions though, There are 2 sizes available 286 & 296mm. Not sure which one I need? (my car is 2002 2.2 cd auto)
Also they do not appear to have the sensors, I'm not bothered about that providing it does not interfere with the display, ie permanantly displaying that it needs new pads!?
I've changed discs before but not on this car, any horrors??

the vauxhall set is only about £100 and will last a hell of a lot longer.

my new car is on mintex, warped under reasonably heavy braking and about to be swapped for genuine.

False economy imho.

Vauxhall set using a trade card for discount ... around £80 + VAT for discs and pads ...  doubt you'll find better value ... even though you might find cheaper ...  :)

Oh, and to answer your display question..

you either need a new sensor..

or cut the sensor off, and short the wires together, tape up out the way,and no more error message  :y

All pads have seperate sensors, they clip to the butterfly shaped anti-rattel cspring on the edge of the pad.
NB Later cars just have the one sensor.  :y

I didnt bother replacing my sensor this time round. Flimzy things (broke the last one trying to fit it).....Front pads usually last at least 12K so you only have to take the wheel off every 6 months to check.
If your feeling lazy just pop down to your local "You cant get thicker than a fast fit fitter" place and they will do a free brake inspection for you :y
