One problem, though. Modern cars, such as the Astra J, simply do not rust during, say, the first seven years of ownership. Who, in their right mind, would own anything older than that? It would be embarrassing to be seen in an old banger with rusty wheel arches or the like.

Cars built in the sixties and seventies certainly suffered with excessive rust.

Some of the most expensive were the worst. The Jensen Interceptor despite costing as much as a house was not immune to the ravages of the tin worm.

The Lancia Beta, Delta and the Alfasud were the Eyetalin cars that gave me a hard on.    Sadly they all crumbled to dust as quickly as my youthful dreams of suducing Sofia Loren lookalikes!

My father owned two of these. A 1.2ti and a 1.5ti. Great little drivers cars that handled as if on rails.

Yep,but both turned to dust quite quickly so similar in that respect

Although I never achieved Alfasud ownership, I did have a Marina Coupe 1800TC!        

I think the Pussy Magnet in the Alfasud was stronger than the Marina's however....
