Omega General Help / What kills a Miggy?
« on: 16 April 2019, 14:50:16 »
I have been driving my miggy for almost 2 months covered about 1800 miles, its a 2001 2.2 petrol auto and I love it, I want to keep it! Shes done 150k miles, gearbox still works good etc, few minor issues with interior switches & phantom sunroof but nothing  major.

I would like to be that idiot who spends a ton of money keeping an old rust bucket going, except I dont see much rust on this one.

I plan on getting the autobox a good service, new fluid & a good clean. And I'd imagine its due new belts too, the exhaust is blowing and has had many previous repairs, I would like to replace the whole system with stainless. I dont have any service history but previous mot's suggest a solid car, its first failed mot was at 125k when the car had alot of work done, including what looks to be a whole new cooling system (pipes, botttles, rad, hopefully w/pump too).

So before I go splashing cash, Id like to know the most common culprits that see these cars to the scrap yard, so I can investigate and decide wherever the car is solid enough to be worth it.

As far as rust goes, I havent had the car on a ramp for a proper look but from what the eye can see, not an aweful lot of rust, unless its covered in hammerite lol, the wheel arches have the very begginings of bubble rust, and the door cills are rust free.

Good morning chaps, I have recently brought a 2001 CDX auto 2.2 petrol with 150,000 miles thats been showing some small electrical faults when I drove the car first time at night with the lights on etc.

This only happens with the headlights on, but when I use the indicators they work fine but then sometimes the full beam headlight randomly starts flashing after the indicators self cancel, its really anoying!! It seems to get triggered by drive over bumps etc too. But this problem does not happen at all during the daytime with the headlights off. Leads me to think its the indicator stalk itself perhaps?

Other issues are: General electrical clicking sounds coming from the centre console, sounds like a electrical relay clicking on/off randomly. The sunroof randomly opened by itself, but only once since ive had the car.
None of the radio, CD or tape player works, it turns on and lights up but the buttons do nothing.
Electric mirrors not fully working, feels like the switch is knackard though to be fair.

Other than that car feels really good, engine and gearbox wise its not done bad considering its towed a caravan most of its life. Theres no rust worth worrying about, so im feeling to make this my first omega project, and any help with diagnosing the electrical issues would be great!

Omega Gallery / My Omega 2.2CDX Auto
« on: 03 March 2019, 21:56:05 »
Hi chaps Im new around here, I recently picked up this Omega 2.2 auto as my first car and to get all my fishing gear in for the season ahead.
I feel like I got alot of car for the money it set me back £700, with a new MOT and 150k on the clock the car feels really solid considering the high mileage, the engine runs well and the gearbox shifts smoothly. Theres a little bit of bubble rust starting around the wheel arches that will be my first little project, theres no rust on the door cills and very little anywhere to be fair.

Are there any common issues I should be looking out for with this model of this age/mileage?

Thanks for looking!
