Title: Call from Jaguar dealer.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 08 March 2018, 14:08:50
"We've just performed a health check on your car" she enthused.

"And"

"The driver side wiper is smearing the screen. We can replace it for £47. Would you like us to do that?"

" No thanks"

I have a pair of brand new Bosch Aerotwin which I've been meaning to fit. They cost about £20 and they want to charge £47 for fitting one wiper....... :( :( :(

I wonder how many people actually fall for this?. Mainly women on their own, I imagine.

Loads I imagine .....they're the same people that pay Halfords to fit bulbs for them  ;)

Ah yes but it would have been a genuine Jaguar wiper, not some Bosch crap!  ;D

probably including the woman who phoned you too.especially if she see nothing wrong with a £47 wiper blade !
obviously this is not a woman thing. its the fact that anybody who doesnt understand the basics of a car gets taken for a ride. probably happens in every other trade too.
i once got called 200 miles to fix a fault on a machine we had repaired and their engineers could not get going only to find they had plugged it into the same extention cable it was in when it blew up.
200 miles plus time to replace a 13a fuse !

You may jest but, I have not been able to find any after market wiper (including Bosch) which is built to the same brick shit house standard the original is.

I put a new pair of GM wipers on my Omega a year ago. They have always been bloody noisy (particularly on a dryish screen) which annoys me greatly.
I replaced them a few weeks ago with a pair I bought from Lidl for about a fiver. The Lidl ones work nicely and are lovely and quiet.
You don't always get what you pay for.  :)

Everyone on the UK and US Jag forums, as it seems that dealers are the only people who can touch these cars ;D

Well......I have the XFR back. This time they put 8 litres of 5/20w oil in it. Last time they used 6.5 litres.

According to the book the car takes 7.25 including the filter of 0/20w. I mean, how hard can it be? :-\

Oh.....and the little shits charged me £10 for the use of the XE. No mention of this at all until I came to pay.

Possibly levied a "day insure"charge?

Possibly.....but I'd like to know all costs before rather than after.

The invoice has the oil down as Fuelsaver A1 5/20.......no idea what that is. :-\

I agree if it is such a charge or for something else entirely you should have been made aware of this at the outset and not when settling up.

You'll get whatever sh1te the bean counter had the bulk tank filled with, regardless of what it says on the invoice.

Essentially I've paid £225 for an oil and filter change. :-\

I can't prove they have done either. No dipstick to find dirty or clean oil on.

Hmm, I would say you've paid £225 for a stamp in the book, which is rather valuable while the car is under warranty  :y

That is why I had it done, Jimmy. :y

I imagine there was a lot of expensive 'arse scratching' going on while they waited for the oil to drain.

Given the car, age, value and spec. The stamp is worth more than anything!

When take the Datsun in for a service I provide the oil and get the oil deducted from the service cost, it might work out more expensive but at least I know what oil is going in.

Assuming that actually use it and don’t pocket the decent stuff you’ve bought and stick el cheapo bulk oil in :-X ::)
