Omega General Help / Re: Airbag ECU swap
« on: 06 August 2020, 23:23:17 »
As long as both cars have side airbags and seat belt pretensioners, it should be fine. Ideally part number and code should match, but post '98 should be sufficient.

Stripping the centre console is barely a ten minute job...

It is indeed when stripping an ecu out of scrapper but getting it back together and looking presentable without breaking aged plastics on someone's car is a longer process, part of you response is very much appreciated but as I didn't ask for a critical analysis of a process please feel free not to provide one in future

Omega General Help / Airbag ECU swap
« on: 06 August 2020, 21:50:54 »
Helping a local chap out who has airbag light lit, scanned it and code showing as " Replace airbag ECU" which won't clear so it's fubarred.  I've done  a swap before but can't remember if it needs to be identical model like the ABS ecu, donor ecu is from a 2.5 facelift estate going in into 2.2 saloon. There's a fair of trim removal involved to get to the bugger so I don't want a headache if it's avoidable  ;)

Xenons are switchable but you'll need to remove* the unit to do it as the bulb cap is screwed on :y

*Whilst you can technically do it in situ, it's easier out of the car and with it unplugged, you're less likely to elwctrecute yourself  ;)

I recall hearing that those ballasts pack quite a punch

I think the comment was more to do with the fact that you can't have BIG gatherings right now due to Covid 19 regulation
hence the part about .....
socially distant discrete meet up

other than the Brackley meet or Billing , when do you see more than one omega in a day , unless you own more than one yourself  ;D

I see 2 most days. And a third if I go to my in laws
.
One is mine, one is behind the legal shops, and belongs to a friend of Omegod, and one is outside a house and looks well looked after.

Bloody hell has T still got that, I'm sure I have some parts in the boot of it from trying to ressurect it, must give him a tinkle !

Bandit's LPG 3.2 estate is still live on ebay at £1200 or offers, it's in bloody good shape too

There's enough slack on the cables to lay the alt face down to undo the electickery cables, bottom fixing bolt is a pain in the ass but securing the nut into a ring spanner with duct tape helps when refitting the alt massively
