General Car Chat / Re: Costs of running a car
« on: 25 March 2024, 12:50:37 »
As to Zafiras and running costs, mine was an incredibly reliable, cheap to run car.  Bought from auction, a fair few issues were discovered before it even got home, including an inability to rev beyond about 3k rpm ;D.  But once that nice DTM fella had sorted that, it never had more than basic servicing, and I thought it was indestructible.   ...until the front subframe fell apart.

It was gutless, handled shite, was desperately uncomfortable on longer trips.  But it was reliable, practical, reasonably economical (around 40mpg most of the time), cheap to run, and good fun to drive (as you dared not slow down for anything, as took too long to get back up to speed ;D

When it died, we looked at Zafira-B's to replace it, but every single one we looked at was a rust bucket underneath :o
pretty much the same here  :y
50,000 ,miles in 6.5 years ,40+ mpg , basic servicing items totalling less than a grand

"good fun to drive" NO  :D

Treat patio slabs etc  ;)  BAC50 ,BA50
Benzalkonium Chloride Algaecide Bactericide & Fungicide clicky

strong stuff  :)
very effective  :y
How long is it effective for?

it's like wiping the slate clean ,kills all the algae ,germs ,mould spores
how long before they come back is down to environmental factors .

Like systemic herbicide /weedkiller ,It displays high degree of biodegradability,

like a new patio ,it should take  quite a while before algae returns

the link (other sellers/websites available ) is for 5 litres ,if you dilute 1 to 8 , that's 45 litres (read the data sheet depending on application)
(don't mix that much unless you have a big carpark or road to treat >:D)

that £30 tub may last you 5 years or more
time is money ,patio washing may be a relaxing/enjoyable "pastime" to some  :)
as is sitting in a comfy chair, ON the patio, drinking beer to others  >:D

The C1 is a Toyota Aygo with Citroen badges on.  ;)
All the parts have the Toyota logo and part numbers on them.
so it should have been called the Citroen AGRO  :P

Probably not so great for the dog :-\
You dilute it to use ,
once slabs dry it is fine for pets to walk on ,though probably not a good idea to EAT the paving slabs after treatment
or before treatment  >:D

plenty of instructions on-line  ;)

Benzalkonium Chloride is the active ingredient in most disinfectants,  Algaecide ,Fungicide ,etc

Bac50 is just super concentrate , it's not watered down and pine scent added ,like "over the counter " disinfectants,  Algaecide ,Fungicide

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 Elite - Surface rust in bores
« on: 22 March 2024, 18:59:17 »
I put a light hone in bores when fitting new piston rings or de-glaze a pot
sounds like it was just light surface rust ,
cam.in.head's "simulated the hone pattern by moving the paper up and down as rotating it." :y
the hone just "holds" the oil on the bores

Lenovo laptop.

6 months out of warranty.....but with what I believe to be a manufacturing defect or design fault that is well known and documented.

I seem to remember Martin Lewis commenting on free repair or replacement after the warranty period has ended.

Lenovo are offering a 'billable repair' which will probably cost more than a new laptop.
"fit for purpose and of mechanisable quality "
however ...
laptops are not designed to be slung at people's heads by angry women  :P

Had two lower arms fitted ready for the MoT retest tomorrow. Front end now feels much more secure

And changed the oil and filter as the car was due one... Last serviced in 2022, but barely 7k ago. Seeing the state of the filter and the colour of the oil I probably should have done it when I bought it :-[
people tell fibs and stamp service books without doing any work  :(
always worth checking what's been lied about when buying a new car  >:D
good luck with the MOT

I'm assuming it needs new seals on the piston, try these people
https://www.biggred.co.uk/
I've used them several times  :) good service

Taking a car for a brisk drive in the wet on Branded Tyres isn't very exciting, now fit some Cheap ol', Chinqy Stonking Horse, and that'll get you old duffers heart racing, and maybe the Angels won't catch you as they won't know we're your going.  ;D
;D
You invalidate the Omega's warranty if don't fit GENUINE tyres ,brought from a genuine dealership that you have to go in to to buy in person  :P

Do you think it might work on the wife?
They are complex ,way beyond sensible reason or logic ,no repair manual available either,
if they develop too many problems you're best off getting a new one   ;)

Why is it that when you lay out the power cable, water hose and HP line to the Karcher power washer gun carefully and all routed separate from each other that within ten minutes it's like a plate of soggy spaghetti with them all twisted around each other  >:(
Buy a High pressure hose extension  ;) don't move the pump about  :)
then it's just the HP hose ends up in knots  :D
