Omega General Help / DTi poor starting when cold?
« on: 16 August 2006, 14:55:41 »
Takes a good few turns over to get started when its cold, like when been stood overnight or while at work for 6-8 hours...and when it eventually starts it flings a cloud of bluey white smoke out of the exhaust...its fine when its warm though, starts pretty much 1st time.

I managed to speak to the guy that has done all the servicing on it, and he told me the only problem he had with the car was the 'fuel return pipe(s?)', but he thought he'd got it sorted...could this be the route of my problem, as if the fuel is draining away from where it should be held, or something?

Omega General Help / An odd one, wrong service schedules.
« on: 19 August 2006, 15:07:53 »
The service book i have with my Omega, is an early facelift book, and thus features the 2.5TD schedule rather than the later 2.2DTi schedule.

Now the 2.5TD is down in the schedule to be serviced at 12months or 6000miles, so mine has FSH and has been serviced and stamped up in the book at the stated miles on the schedule.

Now, im pretty sure, although not 100%, that the 2.2DTi is a longer mileage interval then the 2.5TD, at 10,000miles...so should i continue doing the service at 6k or shift it to the 10k that i think attains to my engine?

Going by my last cars milages, i do approx 8k per year, so id be servcing it at 12month intervals if i swapped, rather than the 6k as done previously.

Opinions please people :)

Omega General Help / Squeaky Squeaky
« on: 13 August 2006, 11:56:10 »
I have two squeaks on my facelift Omega that are steadily becoming highly annoying and i wonder if anyone else has them and if they have solved them?

First one is the steering wheel or column area, only does it when its cold and its as if something is rubbing somewhere...it's a continuous squeaking when the wheel is being turned...ive tried holding and pulling/pushing the shroud to see if its that but it still squeaks.

and the 2nd is coming from the right hand side of the dash, it squeaks when i hit any undulation in the road surface...and i can make it do it if i grab the top right of the dash 'peak' and move it...knowing nme it will be a dash mounting point, and will require the dash to come out to fix!

and no, i dont have mice  ;)

Omega General Help / Back bumper - removal?
« on: 06 August 2006, 17:52:59 »
How do you get it off?...is it just like alot of the later Vauxhalls, a series of approx 4 screws and expanding grommets or is it a bit more involved on the Omega?...mine has come adrift on one side so want to get it back in line.

 Talking a facelift saloon here.

Thanks  :)

Omega General Help / Front indicators
« on: 31 July 2006, 12:05:05 »
Do the front indicators have an Amber filter in them or is it just Amber coated bulbs?

I'd like to fit Silvatec bulbs but no point if there is a filter.

Thanks :)

Omega General Help / Exhaust/Backbox fitments?
« on: 30 July 2006, 12:07:08 »
What are the differences (if any) in Omega exhaust fitments, (pipe diameter & hanging brackets etc) regarding year, engine and bodystyle?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, i did search but couldnt find anything :)

Thanks.

Omega General Help / 3 Q's :)
« on: 25 July 2006, 16:47:36 »
No1 - Are the Omega cruise control stalks all the same regardless of age? - just that i plan to fit CC to mine (2.2 DTi CD) and have been very reliably informed by a trusted vaux electrical guru that its just a straight swap of stalks, and i thought they were all the same, but some questions on ebay about a CC stalk suggested otherwise...as the seller replied to a question fromthe potential buyer, asking him if he knew it was the correct one.

& No2 - The dash vents on Omega's, are they all the same regardless of year?...the passenger side vent in mine (2000 X facelift) is tinkered and i have seen one on ebay but its from a 99 reg preface, but it look's identical...and how do they come out/off too?

& No3 - is it possible to fit the twin-tone horn from other Omega's onto my DTi?...the DTI's come with a single tone unit as standard for some reason that is un-benown to me, and it sounds absolutely dreadful, like a bloody toy car IMO, certainly not befitting the size and presence of the vehicle.

Many thanks in advance people :)

General Discussion Area / My new-look rear end
« on: 16 August 2006, 17:48:06 »
Before:

After:

Ive already been slated for the badge on another forum i use, and yes, i guess it could be deemed abit chav-ish, and i normally de-badge my cars but wanted to do something different this time, and im not lying am i?  ;)

and the exhaust, its just a bolt on trim, I wanted to change the look of the back end without having to @rse about having a back-box crafted for it, due to A: the expense, and B: the fact that altering zausts on Deisels can ruin the power due to back-pressure levels...its not a boggo cheapo tail trim though, its stainless steel, and im well impressed with the fit, sits perfectly.

So, i'll sit back and wait for the kicking on here  ;)

General Discussion Area / 'Silvatec' bulbs are in.
« on: 06 August 2006, 14:43:05 »
Didnt buy them off that site as i had planned...good job too really as i got a brand new pair off a lad over on Vectra-C.com for £10 delivered  :) ...what a rather' struggle it is to swap the n/s one though...next to no room by the battery, and i couldnt work out how to move the battery either...anyway...the pics...

Before: (Note the Amber tinge of doom :()

and After: (shiney shiney silveryness :))

Huge improvement IMO...not sure they flash as bright as the standard bulbs though :-/

General Discussion Area / Bit of a shock - Service.
« on: 03 August 2006, 16:13:24 »
Just having the Omega serviced, and one of the owners of the garage, a mate of mine, told me to phone this afto' to see how they are geting on...

anyway, i phoned up, service going OK, just 2 things to report - i'ts desperately in need of front brake pads...like virtually nothing left on the pads (odd the sensor didnt show up, unless its just outside the perameters?) and id asked them to check for a knocking at the back end...they found it, a broken spring!

Bit shocked about the pads and spring really...least i know it will be sorted now though.

General Discussion Area / 53 Omega 'Sport' on Megavaux site
« on: 02 August 2006, 17:42:19 »
Was earlier hunting through Vauxhall breakers, looking down Omega list on MegaVaux' site, and saw this:

 http://www.megavaux.co.uk/Vehicle.aspx?Reg=AX53JYB

Never heard of the 'Sport' model...looks MV6 specced but with the 2.2 petrol engine...could be a nice project or breaker for someone.

Mods started already...ive whipped the '2.2 DTi' badges off the back and the 'CD' badges off both front doors  ;)

I'm totally new to the Omega so will be asking all bloody sorts likely ;)
