Handbrake light illiminates, at speed.
« on: 08 September 2009, 21:41:12 »

Bit of a strange one, the warning light for the handbrake, has started coming on, just for a few seconds, while accelorating hard, it does not do it under "Normal" driving, just when you boot it. I have not disturbed anything, not the handbrake, nor the instrument cluster. I really need to know some idea of where to start. Anyone had this problem?

Good a place as any to start. I will eliminate that first then. It seems speed related, nothing to do with the amount of revs, working like a "Thrustometer"   ::)

Hi, why would fluid level sensor cause handbrake light to come on? Always happy to learn new things. I thought handbeake switch was on hand brake itself. Maybe it or a wire is a bit loose and is shorting out when under a bit of G force.

Is the fluid at the correct level. If slightly under that`s another possible cause

If I remember correctly, the light also comes on if the fluid is low (I happen to know it's not in this case) The theory is good, as it gives visible warning of a leak.

"Handbrake" light illuminates when handbrake applied. Also doubles as low brake/clutch hydraulic fluid hence sensor fitted :y

Well, you learn something every day. Never had mine low on fluid but I assumed it would put a warning on the info display.
Live and learn.

I used the word thrustometer because like Al said, it seems to be related to G force, but "Gforcemeter" is not as good a word.  ::)  Accellerometer perhaps.  ::)

Not sure if the low fluid would show on the display, I will know tomorrow when I check it. We are learning tonight.

Only fluid warnings are oil and coolant :y

Thanks Rob, nice to know. Entwood is correct of course, I think most of us call it a "Handbrake light", at least I have something to check. Thanks for the advice. :y

Cheers entwood, now I know how it works. Like I said never had mine be low so didnt actually know.
Still, as it comes on when you apply the hand brake there must also be a switch on the lever, so if the level is fine there must be an intermittent short somewhere.
