Whole lotta shakin' goin on...
« on: 23 September 2014, 11:32:10 »

Hi Guys
How are you all doing today?
Well here we go again.
Few weeks back I changed the exhaust (back set and silencers) with a replacement
kit from Poland. After the boys at the local mechanics I use changed it, my car was vibrating
on acceleration. So we changed the rubber mounts and clamped that sucker in good style but still the
car vibrates.
Any ideas?
Not sure if this is a stupid question but is there too much escaping from the exhaust manifold for
the new exhaust to handle so that's causing the vibes on acceleration?
Look forward to your help.
Kind regards
Anthony

Check both rubber donuts on the propshaft... If they are starting to fail then they well stretch under load :y

Hi there  :)
May I ask why that has to do with the shaking after an exhaust update?
Cheers

Coincidence :y

Could be a significant misfire, but car would be a dog to drive all the time...

Only reason it might be exhaust related would be it the exhaust was of such poor quality that it is partly blocked... Think airlocks in old pipework, but again unlikely, unless you bought it stupidly cheap from a tapas bar ;D...

Hi Anthony
I had a similar problem.
Tried all sorts of things but turned out to be the mounting hooks just touching when going uphill or with a load in the back.
Had to really force the back silencers on.
Might be the answer.

Hi
Yea, the hooks on the silencer and on the body which you slide the rubber mounts over.
You might need to sit someone big in the back while you shake it about.
Cheers !

I did that John...I plugged the holes on the rubber mounts with wall plugs ;) the exhaust is solid.
I'm gonna try Omega Queens suggestion and change the donuts on the prop shaft and see if that's it.
If not then I'll move on to change the engine mounts.
If that doesnt work then Im gonna rip out the exhaust and try a new one.
Cheers

Not sure you've quite got the point Anthony.
If the silencer is not pushed onto the pipes far enough the hooks on the silencer touch the hooks on the body when going uphill or accelerating quite hard, particularly when the back end is loaded.

Can you describe this vibration a little more for us Anthony? What sort of frequency are we talking about? Like a buzzing? As if the exhaust is touching the body or a heat shield somewhere? The engine can twist a little under acceleration and move the exhaust as a result, making it touch under load when it looks fine at rest. ...maybe you have a broken engine mount rubber as well perhaps. Or maybe not but you get the idea...?

Are you re using the centre double clamp ? Sometimes this doesn't fit so well and isn't used. Do the clam shell centre boxes touch on the centre or are close enough to touch under power? Etc....

Can you get it up in the ramp again and Rev the engine while someone looks from under the car for the vibration?

Elvin..Thanks for the Spanish but I am a Brit in Espaa...But if you are fluent in Spanish I'll add you as a buddy here if that's OK as I do need part names in Spanish sometimes.
