Omega 2.5 TD Dieselpump electric cover leaks
« on: 30 September 2014, 17:42:38 »

This black cover leaks  :( , what is inside the cover ? . Can I just open the cover and change the sealant or is the job for professionals.

I tried to tighten the screws
Starange that 3 screws are torx but one is some kind of hex bolt 6mm ?? can't see it properly  I tried to tighten it but my socket was too thick..

Not to hard to change the seal, I bought a kit off fleabay and even though it turned out to be a non genuine Bosch kit it worked very well. Access is fairly limited and you have to make sure you mark the position of the cover (it affects fuelling and very critical) before you move anything its quite doable. Most of the 2.5td's will leak sooner or later.

Did mine one Saturday morning and not only did it not leak it actually felt like it went better, but I did mess with the cover adjustment (cos I could)!  ;D :y

Just called to Bosch diesel service about the leak.
They said that do not open the cover if opened the
pump must be adjusted , bring the pump here
they put it in bench and adjust it !

I said that only electric cable cover leaks only seal
must renew why need take the whole pump
off you just open 4 screws and renew the seal ?

He explained that to chage the seal wiring must
desolder first and then cover can be taken off
and renew the seal same time they change all
seals etc would cost about 1000 euros !

What if just loose the cover slighly and but some
glue sealt on the cover ?

Yes you need to de-solder the electrical contacts inside the pump and it can only be done when the pump is removed as you have to dismantle the whole pump to get to the solder ends.
You can replace the seal on the top cover yourself as seen in your photo with the funny shaped bolt.

too difficult so does it work if I loosen the screws
 ( pump in place )
and put some heat and diesel resistant silicone
 around the cover ??

You don't need to de solder anything, that is rubbish! You do need to scribe the housing so that you put the cover back in the same place. Have a look on you tube for info if you need help. There may not be Omega stuff on there but there is bound to be info for the same pump. If I remember it is a VP37 pump, have look around. You do not need to dismantle the whole thing just the top covers. I did mine one Sat morning with a pattern kit of seals and filled the top casing with fresh diesel before I put the final top cover on and it started straight away and self bled. I think some of the VW's have VP37's as well so look for them on you tube as well.

I am meanig black box cover ( electric cable
goes in via this cover )

Now if have found some pics on oldsite
in first pic the box is cirled red

http://oldsite.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1275050663/0

and in later pic you see the green green o-ring seal
and because wires get throgh that seal you really
need to unsolder the wires from metal top cover
 which you are referring .

so choices are unsolder the wires and renew the
seal or use instant gasket ??

If you go down the DIY route be bloody careful not to disturb anything theres a lot of very sensitive objects in the guts of the pump.
The pump I took to bits was knackered anyway this is why I took photos of it and put it on oof for others to see the guts of it.
I can rest assure it took more than a Saturday morning to strip carefully.
My advice would be take it out and let a bosch dealer fix it or if the leaks not pissing out just live with it for know :y

Are you sure it is leaking from there as it is normally the seals between the alloy cover, sandwich plate and the pump housing that leak, a very common problem on those pumps, and yes I did mean the TD not the DTi I have now. My pump has it's own weakness's!!  :(
