Thread holding the V6 heat shield on has sheared, (in the market for two rearmost heat shields BTW  )

Clearly this has happened before, as a previous owner (father) has drilled into the floorpan and fitted self-tapper screws on a couple of points.

My question is... what do we think the best option here is, to make good the situation. I stress the shield will go back on, and won't be hanging off, but I'd like to do a proper repair, not a 'bodge until next time'

Here's my plan. IF i can see where the holes enter the cabin (presuming underneath a seat) and I can get a stainless bolt down a pre-drilled hole, then put a nut on the underside to secure, replace heatshield, then another nut to secure the shield. What do we think?

I think you'll find that they're studs welded to the floor, not bolts.
If I wanted to do a 'proper' repair  easily, I would grind off the remains of the studs and drill the floor for rivnuts. This would mean lifting the carpet to avoid snagging it with the drill.
Although I dislike self-tapping screws, they are probably the thing to use in this case.

Never heard of Rivnuts before, looked into them, they look pretty good! 

In two minds, I am of the very same opinion as yourself.. I'm not keen on self-tappers, the hole only gets bigger every time until you need to put a larger screw in and so on... but might be best in this case.
